Ex-BYU student pleads guilty in attack on woman he was assigned to home teach

PROVO — The former BYU student accused of attacking a woman with a stun gun pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lessened degree of aggravated assault.

Stetson Geo Hallam, 20, had been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, following an April 6 incident that he claimed was an April Fool's joke, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

Charges say Hallam, the victim's home teacher in their LDS Church ward, pressured the 19-year-old woman to meet him so he could "give her a gift."

The woman told police Hallam waited outside her Provo apartment for her to return, then asked her to go to a basement laundry room as part of a scavenger hunt.

Once in the room, Hallam attacked her with a Taser-like weapon, pinned her to the ground and tried to handcuff her, the affidavit states. Despite the electric shock, the woman began screaming and fighting back, and at one point bit Hallam's finger, according to court documents. She later told police she thought Hallam was trying to rape her.

After being bitten, Hallam released the woman, apologized, and said it was just an April Fool's joke, the affidavit states. Police found burn marks on the woman's arm from the weapon and a bite mark on Hallam's hand.

Hallam pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 9 and faces up to 15 years in prison.

It doesn’t matter why he did it, it matters that he did do it, surround himself with Mormons. He didn’t fascinate daily upon a few scum of the earth as an example of malcontent of society trying to degrade the faith of some of his most trusted associates.

Truth is, Reagan respected and chose the men he associated with, because of their faith, or in spite of their faith, it doesn’t matter. He recognized character.

By their fruits he knew them. I miss Reagan.

Carry on.

I can agree with you that I miss Reagan.

The rest, is simply your opinion of Reagan’s motives. We don’t know why he chose them - even if he personally knew them. It appears you are reading his mind or assuming things that you have not provided evidence to support.

It is, in short, a normal mormon tactic of trying to portray legitimacy by associating with another object that carries legitimacy. It is the antithesis of an ad hominem attack - a logical fallacy of attacking the messenger instead of dealing with the underlying argument. In this case, it is an ad hominem implied blessing, instead of dealing with any underlying facts. If it is indeed true, it still does not make mormonism true.

But it remains unproven.

To the degree people served Reagan and country, I’m very proud of them ALL. The additional fact that somehow mormonites were represented among them is not consequential to this thread discussion.

best,
ampu

“Such an unending screed of viciousness and hate. Sad really.”

It really is sad that someone could harbor so much hatred against an entire church. Something must have happened to her when she was a child.

I wasn’t kidding when I said that this type of obsession can lead to ‘acting out’ their hate in the form of personal physical attacks, i.e., a terrorist act. Possibly in the form of bombing a church, kidnapping Mormon children etc. Anything is possible. Let me put it this way, if there were an attack on a church, Colo would be the first to be questioned.

It may surprise many here to know that I am not a practicing Mormon, but have deep roots leading back to the very beginning. I will forever defend my family history and integrity from the vicious bile spewed from arrogant idiots.

We will be attacked for our thoughts and posts almost immediately. I take great delight in ruffling their feathers and watching them throw their little hissy fits.

I see where Colo has been spanked (again) by the Admin Moderator. This is not the first time she has changed text to fit her agenda.

Lets pray for them.

Are you suggesting he picked them BECAUSE they were Mormon?

Even I doubt that, but Reagan was a man who surrounded himself with people he respected.

Of course we don’t know his motives, but their religion certainly didn’t matter to him. Or maybe it did, in a good way, we just don’t know.

I respect him a great deal. I doubt he would have much use for these kinds of threads.

That is all.

Youre not a reporter. Youre just a guy who thinks his beat is Mormons. But keep building strawmen to prove your point, very effective.

And skyman didn’t say that you either have to post everything or nothing. He just said that you are unwilling to post anything negative someone does unless they are Mormon.

Have you no online manners? What? Do you just go around and gossip about people behind their back? When you gossip about someone, at least have the courtesy to ping them.

As for being "spanked," the AM was wrong. I explained that in post #88. I didn't alter any headline; the DesNews altered it. (It's their article; they can re-title it however and whenever they want to).

But it just goes to show you have absolutely no basis or credibility for your claims.

All you can do is engage in personal attacks. From henceforth, I'll take SVCW's advise & place you on permanent ignore. [And counsel other FI to do the same]

Not true. (As in a false claim...as in no basis in reality) The very first thread I posted this week, for example, was about a student @ Augusta State in Georgia who was being threatened with being kicked out. [No Mormon theme involved at all]

What's funny is to watch posters on this thread speak in such absolutes. And then when I point out, "No, this isn't so." They have to back off that claim & then try another personal attack angle.

I wouldn't try to put your "omniscient claims" on any kind of resume' or anything.

I think this thread has set a record for the most posts who side with a would-be rapist. Congrats!

Don't I get a courtesy pin when you're discussing me, or is this your regular habit to go around & gossip about people behind their back?

As for generalizations, if you're so upset about them, where's your outrage over Joseph Smith labeling ALL Christian professors of faith as "corrupt"? (Joseph Smith, first vision, vv. 18-20 in PoGP) What about his claim that all Christians are "apostates"?

Apparently those "generalizations" spread throughout the world in hundreds of languages don't bother you, eh?

Yep. Sorta like those threads that defend the flds.
Amazing isn't that this thread became about you and not about assault and attempted rape. Just shows they got bupkis.

It also shows image-control obsession.

Name any rapist or would-be rapist of an Evangelical background. Would I go on the attack against someone merely passing on the info? (Not on your life)

Such men deserves whatever condemnation & jail time we can give them.

But FReeper posters of late? Even many non-Mormons. Beyond obsessive image control, I guess I just don't understand the advocacy connection unless it comes from men who have "been there, done that" at least in their minds and identify more with the perp than they do the Mormon victim.

Well, the "scoreboard" shows it on this thread. Count up the # of compassionate comments about the Mormon victim in this crime. And then count up the vitriolic comments aimed at the poster who highlighted this crime.

Message given across all of FReeperland: Don't you dare post anything negative about...
(a)...Mormon criminals (Signed: Lds Image-control obessessives)
or (b)...would-be rapists (Signed: Fill-in-the-blank for what moves non-Mormons to be this man's advocate)
