"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Thanks for keeping the ping list going.
You help to keep classic radio alive. Thanks.
I assume Stan Freburg is retired now. Is that correct? Do you know if anyone has taken over his show, “When Radio Was?”
I used to listen to that show whenever I could back in Seattle. I can’t find golden-age shows in the Philadelphia area (through the radio, that is). Any ideas?

Yeah. Stan Freberg's last show, after 13 years as host was Friday, October 6, 2006. It featured the Jack Benny Program of January 8, 1950 and his own Stan Freberg Show of July 28, 1957.
Stan was preceded by Art Fleming as the host of WRW.
Chuck Schaden out of Chicago took When Radio Was over beginning with the October 9, 2006 show. His first offering was Freberg's very first show of 7/14/47 and his 12th show of 9/27/57. Near as I can recall, Schaden's last show was 9/9/07, his last offering a personal audio tape interview with Parley Baer. I think WRW did not offer any shows until...
Greg Bell, the current host, took over. I believe his first show was 11/15/07 and featured Philo Vance of 11/15/49 and Bill Stern Colgate Sports Newsreel of 10/24/42.

Oops. See above post. WRW can be heard in their archives which goes back a little over a week. WRW just changed the format of how they offer the shows this week and I noticed it wasn’t working earlier today.

Phooey, the radio show comes on at midnite to 1 AM in my WBBM area.
I wouldn't tune in that late to hear a play-by-play of the Chicago Bears against the Twelve Apostles.
I listened to classic radio for many, many years when it was on during the day (Saturday) in the Chicago area.
Bummer.

Evening, Vision.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

That sounds like a good one......I'm just a little too heat-stewed from yard work to enjoy anything other than lots of something ice cold and wet this evening.
