Check out this video of a world record 130 Pound Blue Catfish caught in the Missouri River.
The fish was caught using a fillet from an Asian carp that jumped into their boat. After the catfish was reeled to the boat, it took the couple another 30 minutes to haul it into the boat. For those who understand the ins and outs of fishing. It was caught using a Penn 320 Reel with a 40lb test Monofilament fishing line.

Dude, I catch bigger fish all the time. Fish fear me.
130lbs!? That’s the same as one of Michelle Obama’s ass cheeks.
In the Missouri River?
Or the ocean?
“In the Missouri River? Or the ocean?”
How much do you weigh? See, I catch the big ones all the time.
I wonder how big they ran back in the Huck Finn days?
Needed:
1) About 100 friends and neighbors
2) At least four gas grills
3) Several rolls of aluminum foil
4) 25 lbs of tarter sauce
5) 50 lbs of home fries
6) 30 lbs of coleslaw
7) A large barrel filled with ice and loaded with everything drinkable in a can or bottle.
Oh, and don't forget the music!
Have a great summer evening!
I believe the Injuns and our own neolithic ancestors relied on nets and fish traps (weirs). People who fish for subsistence rarely bother with fishing rods.
I recall flipping through a reprinted memoir by a man who grew up on the Big Muddy who was born in the Lewis and Clark era. He bemoaned the decline in river wildlife over his lifetime. And he was writing in the eighteen-eighties!
REAL BIG?? When I lived in Greenville, MS we use to jug fish all the time on the Ms river, wanted to but nevers cauget one this big, he would make a whole week of supper’s, for the whole neighborhood..
My great-grandfather caught a lot of catfish in Ark. using dynamite or black powder sticks out of a rowboat. Stories handed down through the family. I imagine he floated some mighty big ones up back in the 1880s.
What is “jug fishing”?
Yep, I heard they tremble at the mention of your name. :)
I hope your ancestor used that technique with due restraint. The dangers of overusing that method should be obvious.
Not sure about cats, but they pulled some pretty big gar out of the water in those days :-)
I am sure there are still fish in the river the was “fishing” from. He had to be careful there were laws in place even then about using explosives for fishing.
As well as the need to be an OLYMPIC ROWER.
