MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis police say an elderly man is dead and his daughter is in critical condition after a pit bull attack that also injured two firefighters.
According to police, officers were called to 230 North Manassas Street around noon, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, about an elderly man who was attacked by a pit bull dog. When police arrived, they discovered the elderly man and a woman, the man’s daughter, who had been attacked by two pit bulls.
Police say when Memphis Fire Department paramedics tried to treat the victims, the dogs attacked the paramedics as well.
The elderly man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His daughter was taken in critical condition. The two firefighters are in non-critical. Police say a fifth victim showed up at a hospital to be treated for dog bite wounds.

Not true at all. I was born there, 1944, and raised there.
It WAS a great city with the distinction of cleanest, quietest, with the best fire department and utility district
in the country.
It was a city with great public schools and southern hospitality.
This was all UNTIL the blacks became the majority,

I wouldn’t even wait for a pit bull to get on my land. There is no rational reason for anybody to be owning a pit bull in any sort of urban or suburban area and the only safe assumption is that one of them kept in an urban or suburban area is going to kill or injure people sooner or later.
Don’t know about the rest of you, but I would never rely on a dog to be the protector of my family. That’s my job accompanied by Mossie.
My dog is an augmented extension of my own hearing and smelling senses. I only need him to be able to deter an invader by barking and growling or failing that, charge the invader and interrupt his thought process long enough for me to engage him with said shottie. I have no issues with sacrificing the family dog to save the family.
These dogs in the story are not being trained to be defenders of the family; they are being trained to be aggressors that are attacking on sight.
update: The dogs’ owner wasn’t around for Tuesday’s carnage because he was picked up earlier in the week as a wanted sex offender. Neighbors say the man’s girlfriend let the dogs outside because she was afraid they’d attack her in the house.
Nothing thrills a pit bull owner like the crunchy sound of a human throat in a pit bull’s mouth.

I hate pit bulls, they should be eliminated as a species. Your dog attacks and hurts my child you’re in for a hell of a suprise dog owners ...
Red heeler cross, we think. He’s not slim enough to be a shepherd mix, and he’s got a very short, hard coat.
