Can any Freepers tell me how to stiffen too soft leather on the gun holster part of a shoulder holster? The too soft leather grabs the gun and makes it difficult to pull. Any ideas?
I was wondering about that. What clothing is suitable for shoulder holsters?

Thanks to all for advice. I was thinking about sewing a hard piece of leather to the tip (where it is grabbing the gun) to give a spring action to bow it out off of the gun. Still don't know what I'm going to do. Need to find a stiff leather holster which I can put on the shoulder rig.

How prone are shirts to “printing” a shoulder rig?
It doesn't take much of a shirt. As the weapon is mostly concealed by your body and good back straps are not really noticeable, except by people who wear shoulder rigs themselves. I understand any top shirt is too much sometimes , even in Idaho. One holster type is not enough.

There are commercial products if you can find a real shoe repair shop anywhere. They are a type of lacquer thin enough to penetrate the leather and harden it. I don’t think I’d use it on very thin leather, might be too brittle.

Course, I’m not the kind of guy who’d wear teal silk shirts either, so YMMV.

Do right, replace the holster with a suitable one.
Since you will be dependiing on it to do its job, don’t bother with trying to rehabilitate worn out gear (you don’t reuse bandages do you? ;)
Your life will be counting on your holster to perform exactly right, once. Pony up for a good serviceable holster.
Save the old one for nostalgia if you want, but never use suspect gear.

There wasn't much chance of really drying a holster out, only keeping it from being soaked worse. My two cures were alcohol to wipe down the interior of it with to keep water soaked in the holster from causing the pistol to rust.
To keep the soaked leather from becoming floppy, the answer was a spray of automotive underbody coating, available in spray cans in the auto products of a well-stocked bigbox store or automotive supplier. It stains the leather a bit blackish, but it helps. Concealment with a tanker's shoulder holster wasn't much of a consideration for us, and neither was staining our clean pressed white starched shirts. Everything was worn under either rainsuit jackets or ponchos. But in addition to the GI rigs, some Bianchi X-15 and Safariland vertical shoulder holsters were also seen, pretty close to what you're talking about. You might try the spray asphaltum, then coating it with paraffin wax or a spray-on clear laquer.
