So... What do you want to do before you die????
Freerepublic ^ | 07/17/2010 | hacksaw

I posted this a year or 2 ago, and it had a pretty good response - what are your goals before you die? (Leave having a woman of every different race out, because who doesn't?). I'm always interested to see what other people want to do, because I will think, hey - that could be fun!

So....

Mine are (in no order)

Learn fluent Spanish.
Visit Machu Picchu.
Visit Russia.
Skydive.
Buy a Porsche.
Finally learn the guitar.
Have a farm.
Be self employed.
See the Pyramids.

Wow. You made me appreciate all the strange and wonderful things I’ve done in this life. I don’t often stop to think about them.

I have:

Sat atop an electrical tower, making it sway back and forth.
Had a knife pressed into my solar plexus by a killer.
Survived being hit by cars four times.
Was class president.
Had a radio show.
Learned to play guitar and wrote 175 songs.
Lived in England for a year.
Stood at the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Married my high school sweetheart.
Left my physical body.
Shot and killed a rabid dog from almost 100 yards with a pistol with one shot.
Been beaten up by the police (more than once).
Rescued a kid from a fall down a 300 foot cliff face when I was 12.
Explored a cave section where no human had ever walked.
Found my way out of that same cave in the dark, and alone.
Had an unexplained sighting of an enormous, multi-colored light beam.
Was first string running back and defensive linebacker on the same team.
Lived in the Far East for six years.
Met loads of movie stars.
Was shot at, at point blank range and wasn’t hit.
Was served lemon pie by Jon Anderson of Yes.
Bought my first house in my dream neighborhood.
Started a business with nothing and grew it into a success.
Was in a Hollywood movie.

Yes, it has been an interesting life, I must admit.

Walk Hadrian’s Wall.

I'd love to do that. My family's ancestral home is in the Scottish Borders.

There’s probably a lot I missed, but it has been GREAT. I think I forgot to mention that I am a licensed Pyrotech, and do the big fireworks shows! What fun!

It’s beautiful up there. We just loved Hadrian’s Wall. And to walk it - all those little hobbit stop-overs?

I lived in England for a year once, and was invited more than once to visit Scotland by friends up there. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't take them up on their offers.

BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My one regret (so far) is that I haven’t explored Europe and Australia. Although we are planning a bike ride around Ireland in a couple of years.

One of the great moments in A Man For All Seasons

Sir Thomas More: Why not be a teacher? You’d be a fine teacher; perhaps a great one.
Richard Rich: If I was, who would know it?
Sir Thomas More: You; your pupils; your friends; God. Not a bad public, that.

You didn’t? Scotland is wonderful.

Well, when my friends invited me, it was winter. I kept looking at the weather reports on the BBC and Scotland was experiencing huge blizzards at the time, so I took a pass (California boy that I am...LOL).

I was freezing my tookus off in southern England as it was!

I could probably track down my old buddy Ronnie Campbell in the Hebrides and see if the offer still stands.

Living in England for a year must have been, too.

It was wonderful. I almost didn't come back. I'd already sunk roots in the place that were deep enough that it took the general manager of my company a couple of weeks to talk me into coming home.

I had British friends who were willing to house me and give me work (under the table) while I dealt with immigration, etc. They knew the ropes and were willing to show me how to obtain permanent residency status. I almost went for it, too.

I really did love the place, and had made it my home.

My one regret (so far) is that I haven’t explored Europe and Australia.

When I think of all the adventure I sacrificed to have a home and a family, it gives me pause to consider what's most important in life. I know that my sacrifice was the correct choice.

Fortunately, I had some great experiences before I settled down. I'm hoping that one day me and Mommy can do some traveling. I've just got to get to Scotland before I die.
