Well, this is ironic. Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone 4, the smartphone that Consumer Reports says it can’t recommend, is also the one ranked highest in its latest ratings. The device scored 76 out of 100 points–two points ahead of its closest rivals, the iPhone 3Gs and the HTC Evo 4G (click on image above to enlarge).
The product evaluation agency rated the iPhone 4 “Excellent” in its display, navigation, Web browsing, multimedia and battery life categories, “Very Good” in phoning and messaging and “Good” in voice quality.
In short, the iPhone 4 is hands-down the best smartphone available today, but Consumer Reports advises against buying it.

It has been decades since CR was worth listening to...I would say that it descended on the whole into hopeless leftist drivel when Joan Claybrook was put in charge.
I use my phone with Apple's minimal-sized "bumper" case. With that there is absolutely none of the signal issue discussed. I realize nobody should "have to" get a case to clear a problem. But frankly, not having a case is like asking for trouble when the inevitable slip occurs. Also the case feels really good in the hand. And keeps the glass just off the table.
This is the best phone I've ever used, certainly better than my previous iPhone. It is also a truly awesome camera - the camera stats don't tell the whole picture-quality story. And the camera's focussing is really good, right down to near-macro capability. And in very low light, photos and video are so good (bright, clean, great color), I've had friends ready to buy one just for that alone! So only rating this 2 points above the 3GS seems nuts. This phone not only has better reception than my previous iPhone, but the sound quality is also noticably improved. It does Facetime video calling which is very smooth, finally bringing to market, some 25-30 years after Bell showed it at the NY Worlds Fair, picture-phone calls right in the palm of our hands. I and my loved one, who also has one, spend minutes just smiling to each other when away from one another. It also has a far better camera than the 3GS. The high-resolution display is sooooo much better than the 3GS. And with twice the on-board ram than the 3GS or nearly every other smart phone, apps like iMovie (for full video editing and composition) and others (iMovie won't even run on a 3GS), how can it only be 2 points better than 3GS? Or other smart phones? And then Consumer Reports say this phone has navigation but won't edit documents or spreadsheets? OK true at the moment. I bet we'll see the pages and numbers apps available for the ipad on the iphone in short order! The last two give you the ability to edit word and excel documents. OK so they aren't free on the iPad.
I realize I've used a number of superlatives here, and in Consumer Reports tradition, that would be a no-no. And I'm analytic, if you can believe that. Still - Apple created one incredible, in my estimation, device here. The signal issue, regrettable as it is, should not be a show-stopper. Get a case - Apple's tiny bumper case is perfect!

There is no “Android” phone. Android is an operating system supported on many devices. By the way, regardless of this silly review, the HTC EVO4G at Sprint is far superior to the iPhone4.

First, Apple iPhone 4 is troubled by recent reception problem. The problem can be easily solved by using a case or a bumper of $30. But, that means an extra $30 out from your pocket. No free bumper to appease customers, Apple reportedly instructed its representatives. On the other hand, HTC EVO 4G phones were saddled with glass separation and leakage problem in the devices. Sprint issued updates to resolve the issues.
The biggest pull of HTC EVO phone is that it’s the first and only mobile phone running on 4G network, but it compromises the battery severely, experts say. Compared to AT&T, experts say sometimes in certain places Sprint’s 3G network runs faster. EVO charges $30 a month to turn into a Wi-Fi hub, connecting up to eight devices, while iPhone 4 connect up to five devices via Bluetooth at $20 per month.
Both the devices have front and rear cameras, but video conferencing is more chic in EVO as it enables users to communicate with computer users, while iPhone 4 user can chat with only another iPhone 4 user and that too when both are in Wi-Fi zones. iPhone camera has 5 megapixels of resolution but the EVO’s is 8 megapixels.
But Apple device helps you edit a clip before sending it off to Facebook or YouTube. In terms of price, both the devices cost the same. The $199 buy-in for its feature-packed EVO phone is the same as for the most lower memory capacity iPhone 4.
The fact that the iPhone 4G has a real problem with it's engineering does not matter to the Steve Jobs crotch kissers.
If Steve Jobs were to announce that the proper way to make calls on the iPhone 4g was to stick it halfway up your rectum and dial you number by flexing you hip muscles, this bunch would be singing the praises of Stevie for making it large enough to stay in place and comfortable once you get use to it being there.

You’re ignoring the FACT that for many users there is no antenna issue. None. In fact, most actual iPhone 4 users (as opposed to those who love to bash Apple without actually trying Apple products) are reporting better reception than with their older iPhones.
But by all means enjoy your Evo, at least for as long as you have battery...
