GRANDVIEW, Manitoba - An 80-year-old Canadian bison rancher says people have come from around the world to see his prized animals , which he allows to roam around his house.
Henry Makinson, whose farm is located about halfway between Grandview and Roblin in Manitoba, said he sold a female for more than $48,000, more than five times the price of an average bison, because of the beauty and health of his animals, the Winnipeg Free Press reported Monday.
Markinson said his bison, which perform tricks, including a conga-like dance, for rodeos and over events, are allowed to roam his one-room farmhouse as well as his larger home, although some of them choose to stay out.
"They hate walking on linoleum," Makinson said. "But Cathy (one of the bison) will get in my living room with the carpeting and she doesn't want to leave. She just wants to lie down and snooze."
Makinson said he has suffered numerous injuries while training and performing with the bison. He was trampled last year when a gate was left open while he was loading the animals into a vehicle. However, he said he loves the creatures as pets and has no plans to get rid of them.
Makinson said other bison ranchers "think I'm crazy, because a buffalo will kill you."
Who won?
Never mind the buffalo, Beware of the Guard Grizzly!
Thanks.
I saw a thread on that earlier. Poor buffalo. It was lucky the photographer witnessed it so they Rangers could put it down. Hopefully they gave the carcass to the griz.
Got too close to a bison years ago. Not by my own choice. Found myself cornered. It got within an arms length and just stood there looking at me for what seemed like forever. Then it just walked away. And, I started breathing again.

Had a friend that had the largest sheep herd in St. Clare county Michigan...her ram was in a very secure pen and he was LARGE. Depends on the breed of sheep. Her hubby opened the gate with a pail of grain to feed him, he charged the gate and her hubby lost a finger between the gate and a post...he shot the sucker, but first called the guy that usually slaughters goats and sheep in his barn and told him he had just shot a ram and would the guy still process it....took him and a neighbor to load that dead ram into a trailer.
No one process's an already dead animal. They don't know what killed the critter, maybe disease...
He got ticked off when I called him lefty 4 fingers. I only did that once....ouchy to the look he gave me..
Beautiful picture...
