This is not an important question and you can ignore it if you wish.
I have been listening to Rush Limbaugh since 1998 ( only when I can of course), but for the life of me cannot understand why he does the following ( I am sure he has reasons but I've never heard him explain it ) :
* When he mentions Jesse Jackson, he never used the name : "Jesse Jackson", but almost always says -- The Reverend Jackson, in a very strange tone, as if trying to sound very respectful ( I can't quite describe it. Experienced listeners will understand ).
* Where on earth is Rio Linda and why does he refer to that place everytime he mentions some important FACTOID that we all should know...
* Why does he mock the Former Secretary of Labor's name everytime he uses it as in ROBERT REICHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ( lasting about 10 seconds ).
Let's start with the above 3 first and I'm sure I have other Limbaugh mannerisms I'd like to ask about later.
Thanks.
He is imitating the way William F. Buckley used to say “the rverrund...Jack...suhhhnnn!
If you ever read “Shakedown” about his odious money-grubbing career, you would know that the good “Revrrruuuund” never attended a seminary and was never ordained a minister by anyone but his own self.
RE: I have NEVER understood Open Line Friday.
As I understand it, Monday to Thursday, callers only discuss topics he brought up in his monologue. Open Line Friday is the day where you can bring up ANY topic you wish.
His show is unlike Bob Grant’s where everyday is OPEN LINE day. Bob Grant has only one rule -— You cannot violate the once a week rule ( i.e., callers are only allowed to call once a week ). Of course Grant is semi-retired with only a Sunday Afternoon talk show on WABC (770 AM in NY).
Because that is the way William F. Buckley said it.
* Where on earth is Rio Linda and why does he refer to that place everytime he mentions some important FACTOID that we all should know...
Rio Linda is a suburb of Sacramento. It comes from his days of broadcasting there. The residents of Rio Linda aren't always the most stellar graduates of the public school system.
* Why does he mock the Former Secretary of Labor's name everytime he uses it as in ROBERT REICHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ( lasting about 10 seconds ).
IIRC - Rush is making fun of the Reverend Jackson (/WFB) by pronouncing it the way he does.

(Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!)

I think open line friday is when callers can call in about any topic under the sun, vs. the other days when he mostly just takes call about certain topics he is currently speaking on...
He pronounces Jesse Jackson’s name IN the way he does - I’m surmising here - because that’s the way Wm. F Buckley, Jr., would have sounded pronouncing it.
Rio Linda is a suburb of Sacramento where Rush did his show in the early ‘80’s...not a particular great place to be from - cars parked in yards, on cinderblocks etc., pretty run down town....
Not too sure about the other pronounciation but perhaps that’s the way Robert Reich pronounced his own name. Or Rush may pronounce it that way to make the name larger than the individual who is a pretty short man.
Probably someone else will have further explanations.
JJ claims to be a rev. R is mocking him.
Reich pronounces his name in a similar weird way that R just exaggerates.
Rio Linda is a suburb of Sacramento near where R started the talk show biz. Likely had dumb callers who lived there who were not paying attention to life (sound at all familiar?).
I was about to post the same thing. Here’s the link:

He explains it on his site.
You may be correct. I have not heard this before, and always heard he was lampooning the speech. What you say makes sense, though, as I recall Buckley’s voice in my head.
Bumper sticker on conservative site: “Even On Drugs...Rush Is Right”
He does the names because he is mocking a lib on how they said it. The Rio Linda is for people who are not so bright and need explanation....he used to use another city, I forget which one....its just a way of clarifying....
“Open Line Friday” is the day where the caller gets to name the subject, and talk about anything s/he wants. All of the other days, Rush picks the topics and lets the callers comment only on thr topics he chose.

Da Reverend Jacksuun desvere dat RESTECP.
I assume it’s so that he can take occasional Fridays off and have guest hosts that can take calls? That’s why I’d pick Friday to have that theme.
Bing! Bing! Bing! We have a winner!
( I belive he pronounces “The Reverend Jackson” in a Bill Buckley imitation
Rio Linda is a small place in the sticks out side of Sacramento, in goes back to Rush's Sacramento... it short hand for the “not to sharp”
We have a winner!
You haven’t actually listened enough.
JACK-sun is how JACK-sun pronounces his own name. Rush is simply respecting JACK-sun’s choice of pronounciations.
ReisssssssssssCH is how Reisch explained on television the way to pronounce his name. See above.
Rush once got lost in Rio Linda, and couldn’t believe places like that actually existed.
By the way, if any of you have access to KFI online or in California, you should listen to the game show “What the Hell Did Jesse Jackson Say” on Thursday nights. 8:00-9:00 PM Pacific if I’m not mistaken.
It’s really even funnier than it sounds.
