Is Apple an American company? (are any Apple products even manufactured in America?)

Posted on 07/03/2010 9:43:35 PM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

OK so America is agog. Agog I say! At the amazing new American technological marvel, the Apple iPhone 4.

Except, is the phone entirely manufactured... in Asia?

Most of all the software is done in the U.S.. Supposedly most of the circuit design was done here but not as much as before. Some ICs may be made in America. Some of the IC fabrication factory/foundry equipment is still made in America.

A lot was all in Calif but it keeps being driven out. Semiconductor manufacturing “ain’t” as clean as people think.

No, unless by “stirring the pot” you mean am I pointing out that as a nation, we are surrendering every single thing which made us great.

In which case, yes. I am.

So. Is the iPhone manufactured in Asia?

Very few things are manufactured here. That isn’t Apple’s fault. It’s our government’s fault. And I am NO Apple fanboy for sure.

So what computers are completely manufactured in the USA? Why single out Apple?

Everything is made in Asia. All of them.

But you’re grinding an ax with Apple.

As long as the product performs as advertised ... who cares? We live in a Global economy ... cars with foreign names, and foreign sponsors are made in the US. Products like batteries are made in China and other countries and are sold in the US and nobody cares.

I don’t care were a product is produced, as long as it works and sells at a reasonable price.

Yes it is. Foxconn (Taiwanese company with all factories in Guangzhou, China) and their supply chain in China provide all the parts.

Of course, they’re still a bit-player in the phone market so they don’t have the big, established manufacturing base of the bigger players.

They are pretty lib and rapist and fraud Gore on the board is BS. I give Jobs credit for his business skills and for deciding to not allow porn on new iPad or the phone (??).

I also am weary of Apple evangelists. Rush’s obsession with Apple’s crap is also annoying. I loathe Google, Microsoft is no better either and is probably more lib than Apple.

Is the iPhone manufactured in Asia?

Yes, by children.
So are some of the clothes you're wearing and the computer you're using.

Oh. I see the confusion.

My apologies. Actually no I’m not at all on a bash-Apple crusade.

I’m on a bash-Outsourcing crusade. :D

I’m grinding an axe (that’s a neat phrase) against outsourcing American jobs!!

I’m just using Apple as this example.

I sort of like the iPhone. But if it’s made in Asia, it’s hardly an American product. No harm in pointing out the truth - it that’s where it’s made. No sense ignoring that fact. We really need to talk about that emperor, over there wearing no clothes.

We are in this poster’s opinion (way) beyond the point where we needed to wake up, before our nation simply dissolves for lack of any substance.

We’re now moving out beyond that point by the day, and now it’s happening right in front of our eyes.

You suppose Obama would have been elected, if Americans had jobs making meaningful, hi-tech products like we once did?

I think not.

Obama was elected, because all those innovative Americans who used to make cool stuff, are out of work.

Looking for someone to blame.

Well, Obama is giving them someone to blame! “Corporations”.

Problem is, our side isn’t offering anything better. We’ve been all for sending jobs out of the country. Thus, the last election!

Americans need jobs.

Not economic theory. Not tax policies.

JOBS.

Thanks for your comments.

Apple is an American Company with products (like many other companies) are made overseas for manufacturing costs. Microsoft does the SAME thing.
