HELENA, Mont. (AP) -- The U.S. House of Representatives attached a $3.4 billion government settlement with Indian trust beneficiaries to a war-funding bill that it passed just before breaking for the July Fourth holiday.
The settlement was one of several additions made late Thursday to the $80 billion appropriations bill that includes funding for the troop surge in Afghanistan and money for federal disaster assistance. It authorizes the Obama administration to settle a class-action lawsuit with between 300,000 and 500,000 American Indians who claims the Interior Department mismanaged billions of dollars held in trust by the government......

so...I don’t understand this fractional thing very well. Uncle Sam is to buy back land fractions and then give them to the Tribe, who can (or not) then sell them back to the original sellers? Why can’t tribal members sell the fractions amongst themselves instead of to the Tribe, how does this affect future individual property ownership rights of a tribal indian to Tribal land - and, why does the Govt need to be the broker?
I think the tribes were ripped off and also the black farmers. For those not in either group, but paid taxes- we’ve been ripped off, too.
Social Security and Medicare insurance. Ponzi schemes and I would have much preferred to have saved the extra cash on my own.
