I guess Amazon.com bought woot.com so they are selling the 6" Kindle for $154 total; $35 less than on Amazon.com.

That’s way too much money to spend on a device which does only one thing. On top of that, I do not like the idea of DRM attached to books.

I've had my Kindle for a little over a year and I love it. Publishers offer plenty of free to download Kindle books so the book buying doesn't become excessive. Most other books are 9.99 or less (depending on the publisher).

MOST electronic devices only do one thing and are in the same price range - GPS, IPod-type devices, etc.

We have a Kindle and we use it for hours every day. I download blogs, read-alouds for my kids, many of their homeschool books, classics (all were free), and even Army survival reference books. It’s the single best gift we’ve received as a family in years. It took a few days to get used to reading a book in this form, but now I love it. If you can, buy one. Being able to instantly get a new book from just about anywhere in the world is one of the best features. I subscribe to Townhall, National Review Online, and American Thinker, don’t need to have an internet connection, and can read their articles no matter where I am. The Kindle is worth every penny and then some.

I bought my son one, and he love it. He’s a submariner, and likes to read. Works anywhere in the world to download (when they’re surfaced), goes for days on a charge, and doesn’t take up much of tiny amount of personal space you’re alloted on a submarine.

and even Army survival reference books.

Those are ones I would want paper copies of, especially the sections on "What to do when the power grid goes down".

I use my Kindle every day, and I read much more now than before I had it. Lots of Kindle books are free, all cost less than the print versions, and some Kindle books are literally out of print. It's an astonishingly smooth implementation of technology when I can read a book review in the paper, turn on my Kindle, buy it, and be reading the book within a minute. In that sense it has changed my life.

Ah, ha! Amazon to the rescue ... again. They sell small, cheap, solar chargers for cell phones which will work on the Kindle, which uses a Motorola mini USB plug for recharging.

I use mine every day too.

I love to be able to use it in full sun (like on the beach), change the type size (so no glasses), and it always finds my page when I have fallen asleep with it :)

Amazon has been aggressively pursuing authors with out of print titles.

If the authors own the rights, Amazon is offering them 70% of the cover price from every Kindle edition sale, which is several times more than authors would get from a regular publisher.
