I think a lot of it is over people talking on cell phones while driving and either having or causing accidents.

I have an earphone. Although it keeps me from having accidents, a lot of people think I'm crazy and talking to myself when I'm out on a street talking to someone. At least I think it's the cell phone that makes them think I'm crazy. Maybe. Maybe not.

There are a lot of “GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!” Freepers who are negative against everything that is suspiciously after 1985. If their most recent cultural reference is “Cheers: The Diane Years” you may be dealing with one.

People on the phone while driving are a hazard (and hands free really doesn’t help much, the problem is the brain more than the hand, people thinking about the conversation aren’t watching traffic). But even when not driving, many people on the cell are really loud, which can be unintentionally funny (like when their loudly discussing the VD tests they’ve had and why in the grocery store), but when it’s not funny it’s generally rude and annoying.
