Sometimes the owner of the graphic will upload another graphic with the same URL.
It is best not to use them but I have been known to use them on occasion. It is faster than saving a graphic and then uploading it.
I posted a cartoon last week with a hot link. I used the same hot link that you did; the only thing I changed was the dimensions.
