Vampires, werewolves, fallen angels and fairies lurk in the shadows, their intentions far from honorable. Think I'm talking about villains? No, I'm talking about fiction's hottest heroes.
Monsters have always been able to elicit thrills and chills, but for a lot of women lately, those shivers are more of delight than fright. Just turn on your TV, visit a movie theater or wander through a bookstore, and you'll see multiple examples of morally questionable men sporting fangs, fur or fairy wings, all about to sweep women right off their normally sensible feet.
Through fiction and mythology, the paranormal bad boy was usually defeated in the end, but now, you'll more often find him going home with the girl.
Just look at Charlaine Harris' vampire Eric Northman. He might be ruthless and manipulative, but he still has women around the world wishing he'd pick their necks to snack on (myself included, heh). Likewise, Kelley Armstrong's werewolf enforcer Clay is the epitome of antisocial, yet his encounters with Elena are sexier than a throaty growl in the bedroom.

I really think they think that getting bitten by a ‘hot’ VampGuy during sex double-triple-quaduples their orgasms....
I will go the “Bad Boy” theory, myself.
Men Like Zombies, Chicks did Vampires. Good thing we have guides to kill both.
Because it’s ultimately up to us to defend the hot bitches from undead scum
Hey now...
I just spent a moment putting on my flame-proof suit, now let me interject :
I’m a 34 year old Goth. I don’t fancy myself a Vampire, so I don’t wear teeth or what-have-you. I have been known to wear false tails and wings in public (Nobody thinks they are real... Do they ?) Nor do I dress sloppily (metal t-shirts and baggy jeans are just ... sloppy.) I have spikes in my ear (as piercings) and a bit of a dark demeanor.
As far as making me attractive to the opposite sex: Yes. That’s not why I do it, but it is a benefit (Like riding a motorcycle.. it’s not done TO attract the opposite sex, but as an added bonus ? Sure !)
I can rattle off the psychological impact on those around me (I dress like to work as well, and I own my own business) and I can debate the style until someone passes out from boredom. What I would really like to point is that this style, or any style - Serves to spice things up a bit.
But beware: Goths, Steampunks, Vampires, wolves, whatever - Have a sense of humor that isn’t easy to cope with.
I speak as an Adult in the style. As a kid in the style, we all know that mostly it’s a “phase”.
They are all a bunch of Edwards.
just curious - did you see when South Park dealt with Goth vs. vampire, and if so, we’re you amused?
Death for you, Hot Bitches for me.....
I personally have never been attracted to bad boys, which is probably why I’ve been happily married to a wonderful man for 34 years and watched countless friends go thru divorce after divorce. So many women are so stupid. After awhile, they get what they deserve.
The heroine also doesn't have to hide her flaws -- he'll accept her just the way she is. With divorce rates and infidelity being as prominent as they are in the real world, that combination of intensity and devotion, all wrapped up in a supernatural package, can be the literary equivalent of having your cake and eating it, too.
Edward (Play on Edwardian moral code) always protects Bella. Bill is totally loyal to Sukie, which loyalty transcends the supernatural. These stories are written to appeal to women.
Amusing....and insightful....especially defending the hot bitches part....good job!
My wife is hot, doesn’t really fall into the “bitch” category though.
You’ve been around long enough or else i’d tell you to...well. not be around any more.
If Being an emo goth type gets you some bumper. Well I guess its worth it. But srsly, I’m fine with that until you are like 30.
At some point it’s time to grow the f up and be a man.
And what blend are you smoking today?
Sadly, most of our culture does not bother to really grow up, because they don’t have to. Life is one big joyride. Until it’s not.
LOL - that’s great!
