For those who had heard and were worried, I'm surprisingly okay. The Ford F-150 is a remarkable machine. 130-mph head-on speed (NASCAR crashes are sometimes slower than that), and the seatlbelt caused most of my injuries (which is FAR better than any other alternative!!!). Happened 14 hrs ago, and I'm mostly just sore and bewildered.
Sadly, the other driver did not survive. I actually didn't see much of her until she was trying to get in the front seat of my truck... while still in her Saturn. The female minivan in front of me said she (the Saturn driver) swerved into our lane (on a 2-lane rural highway), corrected in time to miss her, but over-corrected and came back into our lane... narrowly missing her, but hitting me dead on.
A few years back, my wife turned in front of a full-size work truck in her Ford Expedition. My two young daughters were in the middle row of seats. The impact was on the front, passenger door. The Expedition was totalled.
None of my family was injured at all.
I did both of your recommendations.
WOW!!
When I saw the headline, I thought *you* had died. I am glad you’re still with us!
Praying for the family of the other driver. I am glad that we don’t have to pray for a deceased Freeper, as well, however. :(
Prayers for you teach - there is more work for you on earth
Indeed it is. My only head-on collision was a combined 90 mph. ...me in a big '79 Caddy sedan, and the other guy in city ice scraper truck. (He skidded and swerved into my lane). I got by far the worse of it (the Caddy was totaled), but with both came out of it with only minor injuries. From then on it's only been big cars (and trucks) for me.
The "130 mph" was assuming that the speeds added up... and I'll probably continue to use it casually with friends, LOL.
My old 1999 Ford Explorer (with 185,000 miles on it) saved my daughters life. She was struck in the drivers door...the impact bent my truck into a U shape. she walked away with a large bruise on her left shoulder..left hip....and a small cut on her left earlobe from flying glass.
If she had been in a car.....she would have been dead. All we drive now are trucks.
Holy Wow! I thought you mis-typed when I read “I was DOA”!!! Thank goodness for those students!! Amazing story! Thanks!
It’s the second steer that always gets people - either into oncoming traffic, or into a long, lurid slide that ends up in a rollover. Cars provide maximum protection in frontal collisions - At those speeds, only very sligh avoidance maneuvers should be made.
and it will have to be a HEAVY rental vehicle! LOL
I really was unaware of how heavy the F-150 is... 5000 lb! Well, so much for complaining about "only" 21 mpg... that extra weight saved me. Suddenly, it's not so bad to carry it along and spend an extra few bucks at the pump.
Yeah, I saw a young lady texting as she was speeding up to a red light yesterday thinking, “let it wait till you get to where you got to go so you get there safely and everyone around you”.
There but for the Grace of God, go I.
Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou
A Ford technician might be able to download data from your truck’s airbag computer that would state precisely the truck’s peak velocity change during the crash. My guess it is in the 28 to 32 mph range.
I know he would want you to help save America from the socialists in power right now.
Thank God for your light injuries and for Ford trucks. I was t-boned in my 2006 Ranger on June 9 by a lady who was drunk and high on drugs who blew a red light that was red for an eternity. She spun me around and I hit a couple poles and rolled over. I hung upside down in my seat belt for several minutes until the fire dept could cut me out. My truck was totaled. I came away with several bruises up and down my body and a fractured neck vertebrae. I never lost consciousness and everything works in my body, just have to wear a neck collar for another month to let the bone heal.
WOW ! ! Thank God you’re alive!
And my condolences to the family of the poor woman who lost her life.
I think when we get to heaven we will realize that the Lord’s grace intervened much more than we give Him credit for.
I would also put them in your investment portfolio.
It’s insane to use a cellphone while driving. Texting is even worse! It’s bad enough that people do these things while walking down busy sidewalks and crossing streets. I can’t tell you how many people (mostly women) whose lives I likely saved here in New York by warning them that a car was bearing down on them while they were mindlessly crossing the street pushing buttons on their cell, not looking up once to check for traffic. On the sidewalk they walk right into you or other obstacles because they are not looking where they’re going.
Oh, my. Hope your neck heals well, and soon.
