A little dog with a big heart is being called a hero after he died apparently protecting the family's newborn baby.
Two pit bulls went into a Richmond home on Sunnday and as they approached the 22-day-old infant, the family's Chihuahua put himself between the baby and the intruding dogs, police say. The pit bulls chomped down on the little dog and took him out of the house. The Chihuahua was later found dead.
Police started getting calls about the attack at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday and found the pit bulls at the home on South 4th Street. No people were hurt during the attack. The owners of the pit bulls did not surrender the dogs for euthanization. A dangerous dog hearing could be held to determine what to do with the pair of pits.
wow.. my grandma used to tell me little dogs were good to sleep with because they attract whatever bad thing or ailment will hit you. poor little dog... magnificent creation.
How did they get in? The door was open?
Oh, poor little fellow.
That’s what I was wondering.
....little guy had Corona muscles.
Clearly it was humans at fault here. Where the hell were the parents? And of course the owners of the pit bulls?
Poor little Chihuahua. He was a hero.
Taco Bell should create a chihuahua hall of fame (at least a virtual one) for exceptional chihuahuas like this one.
I have been amazed recently at the people that leave their doors open and cars unlocked. Then complain when something happens. Society is degrading and people have to behave differently. This pitbull owner is typical of the “new” society. Their dogs roam and it’s your problem, not theirs. We have to live defensively.
I'm sure they were "good dogs" that "would never hurt anyone".
Doggie door?
Chihuahuas are tough, brave little dogs. I have a long haired chihuahua and it won’t hesitiate to go after any other dog that wanders into our yard, no matter how big. Most of the time the other dog is shocked enough that it runs away immediately.
Yep, I have known several of these little dogs, far more guts than brains in both of them. I can easily see both of them standing to defend a child or an adult from any large, vicious dog that came their way. Excitable and obnoxious but courageous little dogs.
We’ve got a pit and a chihuahua. Both are great dogs. Chihuahua is the best watchdog you can get . . . they will bark and raise a fuss if something new happens.
Maybe. But they come in sizes and a door for a chihuahua SHOULD be too small.
Euthanize the owners, then.
I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.
That dog deserves a Medal of Honor.
yep...how people continue to defend these animals is beyond me.
“It’s not the dog, it’s the owner”...it must be just a coincidence that pitbulls are involved in these incidents the majority of the time.
