I am very happy with Kindle, although I am not sure if it wasn’t 12 months later that I wouldn’t just get an Ipad and use the book reader. With Kindle, though, the page is ‘eye-friendly’. It is supposed to closely mirror the feel of reading printed paper books.
I have no clue.
Find out which one allows you to change the battery the cheapest. Last I heard the Kindle battery needs to be changed by Kindle and cost $100. Lasts about a year depending on use.
I’ve been using my Palm for reading eBooks for years. With the free eReader software, it’s a snap. Now I have a Blackberry Pearl and use the same software on it. But I still use the Palm because the screen is larger.
I looked at the Kindle and others. Regardless, the price is way too high, IMO, to simply buy books online and read them on a device. Evan a laptop (or any PC) will work with eBooks and eReader. Again, just my opinion...
Given the machinations of the bozos in Foggy Bottom, I’d stick with old-fashioned paper at this point.
iPad.
I’ve used both and prefer the Nook. The big reason is because it uses epub format for books and not Amazon’s proprietary format. This allows you greater flexibility to side load books and “buy” from more sources.
The Nook is not backlit like the Kindle, so it is easier on the eyes over long periods. To me, it looks more like a book page.
Neither. Ipad.
There is a Kindle Ap for the iPad, get the iPad
See if you can find a friend with a device you can try out.
I have tried reading from both LCD and digital paper devices. In my opinion, the digital paper is a little better but both seem to cause eye fatigue. I can see the advantages is storing books digitaly but the best of screens still lack something when compared to old fashioned ink and paper.
I have friends that love their Nooks, Kindals and iPads, you may also, but check it out before spending the money.
Longtime owner of a sony reader here till my daughter stepped on it, so I’m shopping around. I’ve handled the nook, the new Sonys and the kobo, but not the kindle.
My opinion of the nook is it’s a little more awkward to hold “naked” as opposed to the Sony or Kobo, and I’m concerned about the lcd screen as far as durability and battery life go. The price is spot on.
The kobo is great in the hands, but currently has some firmware issues they’re working on. If you don’t like the white, black is coming out soon. I feel it’s overpriced at $149. No wifi, but that is a plus as I’m leery of companies controlling my books (ala the Kindle 1984 fiasco). Price may drop at Christmas.
The new sonys: Very nicely designed, but coming from the 505, I find the 300’s screen a little small. Also think they should have put 2 gigs in there as opposed to 512mb as they took the sd card slot out. Very short sighted there, and overpriced at $169. The 600 is a good size, but clarity suffers from the touch screen a bit. Price is okay at $199. I’m expecting both these to drop in price by Christmas.
A good source of info is the comparison forum at www.mobileread.com. This website is also a fantastic resource for public domain books formatted for eReaders.
Nook... It is easier to read, IMO.
I have only used a friends kindle and haven’t seen the Nook. Look and touch the screen on each device. See how it works for you. See if one is easier for you to look at in various lighting conditions, When there is not a clear technical advantage pick the one feels best for you. Kindle 2 will hold about 1500 non-illustrated books and dose not have a SD slot unlike the first kindle witch did have a standard SD slot. At one book a day it will be years before you need more memory.

Opinion,
Give it up and go to the public library and check out books.
We are free, easy to use, and very accommodating for requests.
It's about the size of a magazine (so not as portable/small as the regular Kindle) and the displayed page is the same as if you were reading a page in a book. It works for me!
I downloaded a FREEE book reader for the PC. It’s caled YBook.
There are thousands of books on the Gutenberg Project that can be downloaded into it.
Put it on any notebook or laptop and viola’
