Yes, we were luckier than a lot of people. We are 50 miles from the coast so we didn’t have to evacuate. Our home wasn’t damaged and if it had been we can afford to have it fix right away. Praise God but we got so tired of the aftermath.

The big trees are no match when a hurricane drives inland. Will never forget the inland destruction from Hugo and Fran winds more than 120 miles from the coast.

Avocado tree? I thought all the freezes caused by global warming had killed them off in Florida.

The big freeze of '62 killed the one my grandparents had in their yard in Tampa. That tree must have been 25 or 30 feet tall.

Many thanks for the “ping” NN. I found myself watching for it instead of going the usual “Weather Channel” route. I can't stand their politics anymore, unless it is Jim Cantorie with a relative remote of information. He was great here during "Ike" and won my respect.

Hope "Alex" shuts up the oil spill hysterics and somehow moves it out to sea, or visits Barry and the gang. However the Lord would choose to demonstrate He is in control of our country and her waters. Hope somehow this will turn into a blessing for the gulf regions, and not more heartache.
