No authority here, but I could imagine Obama’s mother being trendy enough to say “black” if asked, just to offer the benefit of the doubt. Whether that would have carried any weight, I don’t know.

I could imagine Obama’s mother being trendy enough to say “black” if asked, just to offer the benefit of the doubt.

Oh, she would have, except that the term didn't come into acceptance and general usage until the late 60's. The word "negro" was the pc term of the early 60's, when Obama was born.

In fact, calling someone "black" was darn near an insult in that day.
