Yep very true! But this was my point.
Since the US has won no one has said just a single
world about the referees because people are just happy.
Of course if the US had lost this would be totally different. As said to hate referees and their calls is part of this sport!
Reffing should not be the reason someone wins or loses in any sport, and in soccer it happens way too often.
Switzerland ripped.
Germany ripped
Us ripped twice
Multiple others.
It's a disgrace.
Still basking in the moment. But there's still a lot to be bitter about with respect to the officiating, which is marring this whole tournament.
Just in this game, you have the disallowed goal on an incorrect offsides, a booking to Altidore for no contact whatsoever, a booking to Beasley for a "handball" that was actually trapped off the chest, a missed penalty/red card on the foul that split Dempsey's lip, and quite a few more that I'm sure I've already forgotten.
I finally gave up hoping for a break the other way, as it was clear we weren't going to get one.
The officiating impacted the game, and that's almost universally a bad thing in any sport. Sure it was a thrilling finish to overcome that, but the drama is no reason to condone it, or to ignore calls to improve and reform the system.
