Still basking in the moment. But there's still a lot to be bitter about with respect to the officiating, which is marring this whole tournament.
Just in this game, you have the disallowed goal on an incorrect offsides, a booking to Altidore for no contact whatsoever, a booking to Beasley for a "handball" that was actually trapped off the chest, a missed penalty/red card on the foul that split Dempsey's lip, and quite a few more that I'm sure I've already forgotten.
I finally gave up hoping for a break the other way, as it was clear we weren't going to get one.
The officiating impacted the game, and that's almost universally a bad thing in any sport. Sure it was a thrilling finish to overcome that, but the drama is no reason to condone it, or to ignore calls to improve and reform the system.
Everyone thinks the referee is against them.
Yes but this happens to all teams sometimes.
Believe me it will not be possible to become World champion for example without receiving some bad or even horrible referee calls during the whole tournament.
This is the way it is and allways was.
As said sometimes you have luck sometimes not.
But real good teams usuall prevail even they had bad luck
during a game.
I'm amazed the refs catch as many of these as they do. I'm not for replays that stop the flow of the game, but there is no reason they cannot have a ref in the pressbox who assists the referee the way the linesmen do, and can watch replays and suggest to the referee that cards be given when a replay shows they are warranted. (including for dives!)
