Portrait of the Outer Aleutians from space:

Go here for links to larger resolution images: Outer Aleutian Islands

Here are the names of some of the islands you can see in this image (from west to east):

Kiska, Little Sitkin, Amchitka (long and narrow) Semisopochnoi (round), Gareloi, Tanaga, Kanaga, Adak, Great Sitkin, Atka (volcano on eastern end is Korovin)

Obviously they're volcanic, so here are a couple of images of Gareloi.

From the Space Station:

From the surface:

They should have volcano boat tours of the Aleutians in the summer. Start in Anchorage, cruise by Augustine and Katmai, then go down the chain.

A week to 10 days, I'd figger. It'd be fun, lots to see on each island.

Are you from AK? Your Freeper name suggests it.

During the summer a state ferry ran from Kodiak to Sand Point, Cold Bay, Akutan and Dutch once a month. Some people did just ride out to see the sights, it never stopped for more than an hour or so.
