A senior Iranian cleric has decreed dogs are "unclean" and should not be kept as pets -- a move aimed at discouraging Western-style dog ownership in the Islamic state, a newspaper reported on Saturday.
Dogs are considered "unclean" under Islamic tradition but, while relatively rare in Iran, some people do keep them as pets.

LOL,,al Catya!
I’m here for the pics of doggies I know are coming!
I’m with you.
If my dog even growls at a child he is gone. If a dog bites on once occasion he is put down.

Well put.
The most important point I have always put forward on this matter is that you do not risk your life or health to save an animal (pet).
I received a huge flaming from a number of Freepers on a thread a few months ago for stating that a Fireman should not have risked his life to save a dog that was caught in a flood.
The Fireman had repelled from a helicopter to save the dog (a risky maneuver). The Fireman had received a potentially disabling bite from the dog for his effort.
Many of the Freepers thought I was cold and unfeeling and said it was the Firemans choice. I on the other hand pointed out that actually it was the Firemans Chief or Captain that is responsible and that it was also an improper use of tax payers dollars to use a helicopter (which was also put at risk) to save an animal.
In my opinion this country has lost its perspective on the value of pets.
Awww,,,that is so cute.
My 8 month old grandson hangs so much with the two labs that I do believe he thinks he is a dog in a very fuzzy pack.
