I’m with you.

If my dog even growls at a child he is gone. If a dog bites on once occasion he is put down.

My grandchildren bit alot and I never recommended putting them down.

An animal while loved and enjoyed is not a human and doesn’t get the same, well, perks of humankind.

Well put.

The most important point I have always put forward on this matter is that you do not risk your life or health to save an animal (pet).

I received a huge flaming from a number of Freepers on a thread a few months ago for stating that a Fireman should not have risked his life to save a dog that was caught in a flood.

The Fireman had repelled from a helicopter to save the dog (a risky maneuver). The Fireman had received a potentially disabling bite from the dog for his effort.

Many of the Freepers thought I was cold and unfeeling and said it was the Fireman’s choice. I on the other hand pointed out that actually it was the Fireman’s Chief or Captain that is responsible and that it was also an improper use of tax payer’s dollars to use a helicopter (which was also put at risk) to save an animal.

In my opinion this country has lost its perspective on the value of pets.
