Several of us are sending our children off to college in the fall and are concerned about their safety. Since most campuses have a no carry policy, what are some suggestions on how to "arm" them?
be aware of your surroundings
walk with friends - power in numbers
pepper spray
kubotan
don't accept drinks from friends or strangers without watching it being poured.
A snub .38 and keep his or her mouth absolutely shut.

Pepper spray, taser, kubotan, etc are useless if: A)everyone on campus knows that you have them, and; B) you have no training in how to use them effectively.

Get a Glock with a the right to carry a concealed weapon.
Send them to a college that posts signs saying that at least 50 percent of all students must be armed every other day. Do you feel lucky today?
I’m with you on this. Carry a compact, lightweight snubnose revolver in at least .38 or one of the many small semi-autos in at least .380. Don’t show it off or mention it to anyone. What the fools that run these places don’t know won’t hurt them or you. And if you need to use the weapon - if life is at risk and there is no place to escape to - then use it and don’t hesitate to do so. If your choice is between being raped, maimed or murdered or getting kicked out of school and facing charges for illegal carry I would say that is no choice at all.

You give different advice to young men and young women.
One would assume they are not 21 yet.
Never leave a friend behind at a party, on or off campus.
Always use safe rides if available on campus. Try to use the library with friends who are also on your hall or dorm.
Try to set the rules as to boyfriends or girlfriends staying overnight in the room.
Keep your dorm room locked at all times.
for about $500 or so, you can get them a taser that projects the probes via connect wires. Each pack can be removed and then the hand unit sports two probes that can be used close-in....I got one for my daugher.
Do all states require you to be 21?

The process must start well before the week they head off to college. My daughter who is some years away from college has an advanced belt in a martial arts discipline that teaches such things as disarming an attacker with a knife or gun. She is also an experienced shooter who can actually hit a target with the training to match. Sometimes the worst thing one can do is give someone a firearm and assume they can protect themselves.
Find a college that endorses concealed carry full time.
