1:20 p.m. LINCOLN _ Nebraska has officially accepted an invitation to join the Big Ten Conference, The World-Herald learned early Friday afternoon.

Obviously the Big Ten sees value in Neb joining otherwise the offer would never have been made. Has to be a win-win scenario for both Neb and the Big Ten. Strictly from a college football fan perspective, I think it's going to be great for college football, the Big Ten and Neb.

Athletically, Neb brings a lot to the conference, academically, they don't.

Nebrasketball(as we fans colloquially call it) is terrible. However with the recent passing of a 350 million bond to build a new arena and a new commitment Nebraska might break its basketball curse.

Are those consecutive games played? The Nebraska-KU teams have played each year for the last 104.

Not sure. Just did a search and found the stats.

On further research it appears that Lafayette and Lehigh have played since 1884, making it the oldest.

Seems to me the big 12 is about the end. Nebraska has been wanting to leave for sometime when it noticed the big Ten was better for them. They didn’t like the Big 12 South schools especially Texas. So as such Colorado bolted because it saw what was coming and they were the first to be invited to the Pac 10. The Pac offered them first to not get Baylor on board.

The Pac wants the best schools. As such Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Colorado and Texas Tech were on the radar.

It seems those schools hated the big 12 too because the big 12 North schools didn’t always agree to their desires. Only one was Colorado.

But now it seems another school Texas A&M is split between going to the Pac or SEC. It seems like it is leaning to the SEC. As such Kansas may sneak into the Pac 10 of A&M is out.

Meanwhile Nebraska dissolved itself out of the big 12 and was voted into the Big Ten when they petitioned to join.

Missouri may head their too, but now it seems the Big Ten is waiting. Not sure what got them to accept Nebraska and Not Missouri so quickly. But if they wait too long Missouri may try for the SEC.

The teams left int he cold seem to be Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, maybe Missouri if SEC or Big Ten don’t come through and maybe Kansas if the Pac 10 takes A&M.

However, Kansas seems to be looking at back up options including the Big East and SEC.

Tuesday the Texas teams will bolt the conference along with the Oklahoma schools. A&M will, in my opinion go SEC, but we shall see.

The the big 12 will end. Maybe the teams left behind will head to the Mountain West.

If you're naive enough to believe that it isn't all about the money then the stupid twit in this picture is you, not me.

“I live in Texas now and I’m furious.

Nebraska did this for selfish financial reasons. Let’s toss out 100 years of history for an extra couple of bucks.

Wow.”

It’s not just a couple of bucks, it’s a lot more. And it’s because of Texas. The B12 could have had a MUCH better TV deal, but Texas wanted to preserve their own pipe dream of a TexasTV network (much like Notre Dame’s), and because they insisted on playing every game in Texas (never mind the recruiting ramifications for the old B8,and because they took every chance to win every battle.

In truth the old corrupt Southwest conference was saved by the B8, only to turn around and poisen them much like they did to the old southwest conference. Well, Texas can give all that up and go be another school in the Pac10 now. Good luck and good riddance, let them poisen the Pac 10 now.

“And being an alumni of two Big Ten schools I see no benefits to the conference, either in athletics or academics.”

except for the chance for the B10 to become relevant in the world of football again.

The reality here is that the conferences are re-aligning into several super conferences. The B10 could just as easily be on the outside looking in as the SEC and the Pac10 take over college football. Under Pelini and Osborne the Huskers are on a serious upswing and will be competitors within the top 10 this year and beyond.

The Big 10 doesn't need Nebraska to become relevant in the world of football. Nebraska could probably use the Big 10 to become relevant in the world of academics.

I am not simply talking about just that. Of course money is involved but that isn’t the final reason why they moved. I would attempt to explain it to you but just like the other day you will ignore the facts and make up stuff. I will say this it was Texas moves this past week that pushed Nebraska away. Not the money, not anything else.

Really?

Th number of (then)Big Ten Teams who have won a MNC since 1970: 1.5

Nebraska since 1970: 4.5(1 shared with Michigan)

Complete relevance there.

“Late Thursday night, OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said he was working to keep the Big 12 (now down to 10 schools) together.”

Yeah, he said that. But, he also said: “Whether we can convince people that staying together (big 12) is a good option, I don’t know.” Castiglione said he couldn’t comment on whether a 10-team Big 12 would be a better option for OU than the proposed addition of six Big 12 teams to the Pac-10 because he hadn’t seen that proposal and still hadn’t talked with Pac-10 officials. And, then this: “We’re aware of what’s going on,” Castiglione said. “We know we’ll have the opportunity of a couple of other conferences to consider our options.”

Other sources have said that OU has asked the SEC for an invitation. Also, it’s reported that Gene Stallings is pushing for A&M to go to the SEC.

Based upon other reports, it’s pretty clear that UT is the big dog in this and has been throwing it’s weight around. One option now heavily discussed is for UT to go independent. Should that happen, OU and A&M may go to the SEC.

Actually if the Big Ten adds one more team from a state not presently in the Big Ten then the teams would all be from 10 states so that way they could still say they’re the Big Ten.

You need to get on the same page with your Cornhusker leadership. They're blaming it all on Missouri.

I watched the entire news conference yesterday. Osborne said that it was the six team deal being said by Texas sycophant Chip Brown is what pushed it into overdrive. When Perlman tried to get a commitment out of Texas by signing over media rights to the conference and Texas refused it was over. Texas wanted a commitment from everybody but themselves. Nebraska only mentioned Missouri as to point out that it wasn’t them who was openly courting other conferences. There was absolutely no way the Big 12 Conference could be competitive with out Texas on the same page as everyone else when it came to the media. The non-Texas teams would not have even close to the same bargaining power with TV execs.
