My wife picked 1 1/2 gallons of raspberries and gave half away then she made me a Raspberry and Blueberry pie. At 77 our gardens are what get me out of bed in the morning. Well that and FR...
Sounds about right in my case. Have one, working on the other.
Ben Franklin forgot to add that pie is also proof God wants us to be happy.
>> grow bags and drip feeding lots of supplements
>>to the plants...
Grow bags look very promising too.
I have some scraps of landscaping cloth I’ve been saving with the idear of sewing them into tubes. Thanks for reminding me I need to get that done.
It’s easy to lose motivation when it rains every other day and you have to plant in MUD! ACK! The best week in May to plant, I was too busy, so here I am with only 13 tomato plants in the ground. My main garden bed had to be *mowed*, the weeds were so awful, and it was so muddy.
I may do some alternative plantings just to get stuff going. I’ve seen plantings IN bags of soil or potting mix, and I think I will do that. At least for some peppers. It won’t be pretty, but it will get us off the ground (literally).
Oregano will spread a lot if you don’t plant it in a container
It just started snowing up here at 8500 ft elevation in the Colorado Rockies. All veggies in containers are safely indoors.
Yabut, It’s a warm snow right?
Ah - now that’s a great/simple idea.... especially for potatoes.
Just roll down the sides after planting and then unroll/fill with dirt as the season progresses.
A much easier solution to implement than stacking tires.
Thanks!

Worked up at Echo Lake Lodge back in the late 70’s. Had snow well into June. Things haven’t changed.
Bush’s fault.
Well, I picked three really big cucumbers on Friday. Three more a little smaller ones on Saturday, and 4 more even a little smaller ones this afternoon. The rest on the vines are few and really small.
The largest two were sliced, a little less than half the slices saved for sandwiches, etc this week. The rest of the slices, as well as the rest of the cucumbers, save one that wouldn’t fit, are canned in pickle mixture. If all goes well (this is my first pickling and canning experiment), I should have some really yummy hot garlic dill pickles in a week or so.
The first Butterstick Zucchini coming on. June 13, 2010.
Tess stalks the wily grasshopper...be vewy, vewy qwiet!
Does anyone on the Garden Thread know how to stop Crepe Myrtles from sprouting new shoots from the base? I get tired of constantly having to break/cut off new shoots that appear around the base. Is there a better way?.............
Ive got a pan like that I drain my oil into.................
I find watering to be the time to let your mind wander and explore new paths of future gardens...........
I have the same problem with our Crepe Myrtle. I don’t have an answer. Maybe some one will help us out!
Does the Butterstick zuke have a different taste?
Thanks for the link to sewing a grow bag.
You sure do need a break in the cool weather.
