WASHINGTON — Please don't leave us

That's what Nebraska's U.S. senators are hearing from their Kansas colleagues at the Capitol. The Kansans fear that a Big Red departure from the Big 12 could spell the league's doom and leave their beloved Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats shivering in the cold without a major conference to call home.

If that happens, at least two lawmakers — one from Kansas, the other from Iowa — suggested that congressional action is possible.

On Tuesday, Sen. Pat Roberts, Wildcat Republican, buttonholed Sen. Ben Nelson, Husker Democrat,

So if Mizzou goes to the Big 10 also, does the Big 10 become the Big 12 and the Big 12 now the Big 10, uhhhh, wait, yeah thats it

Missouri can’t compete athletically or recruitment wise in the Big 10..

Actually that is incorrect - Missouri is in the mid-50s in the Director's Cup. Which is ahead of Iowa and right behind Purdidn't and Northwestern at the moment.

Nebraska appears to be solidly in the Big Ten.

What's in it for the Big 10? Nothing.

Only meant something when there was a lot fewer schools that could compete.

Nebraska is:

An AAU member

A Land-grant college

A research institution

Has a national following in football

This sets up a marquee match-up for Iowa much like Ohio State/Michigan

Nebraska is 14th in the NCAA Director’s Cup standing. That encompasses all sports. That puts them ahead of everyone except Ohio State (2nd to Stanford) and Penn State (9th)...

There are a LOT of Nebraska fans out there that AREN’T in nebraska. They have a national following like all the “big boys” of College football, but since the state itself is considered to be “small” it’s disregarded.

At the expense of annual match-ups against Oklahoma and Mizzou. I think the alumni are going to be a tad disappointed about that. And Michigan/Ohio State go back over a century. When was the last time Nebraska played Iowa?

Nebraska/Oklahoma hasn’t been an annual matchup since the Big XII formed.

And if the rumors are true, Missouri will be coming along for the ride.

Added to the research department and AAU membership the school already has, membership in the CIC (which means a lot more $$$) wouldn’t be far off....whereas Ntre Ame would need to seriously upgrade its’ graduate programs.

Guess Nebraska is giving up on beating Oklahoma...
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

2009 Score
NU 10
OU 03

NU on the ascendancy
OU on the decline

BIG12 South killed this league (aka: Texas). By the looks of it, they were gonna have the Big12 final in Texas year in, year out. North Division was feeling like chopped liver. No yearly OU vs NU rivalry didn’t help matters.

And Texas will be going to the Pac 10 but will have A&M, OK State and Tech tagging along with them as if they were thier little brothers.

The Big 12 North has been an embarassment for the conference and all the real football took place in the South.

I would prefer Texas go to the Big 10 if I was given a vote however, there is another option besides the PAC 10....INDEPENDENT

As a Texas Alum and fan, I would prefer the Big Ten as I would love to see the Horns play Michigan and Ohio State on a regular basis.

Another thing the federal government has no business involving itself in.

The Big 10 pay out is pretty substantial thanks to their tv network....

thanks in part of the launching of the Big Ten Network, the league distributed $19.9 million to each of its members during the last fiscal year. About $15 million was generated through TV contracts, including $6.4 million from the Big Ten Network.

Years ago, Osborne warned about letting Texas in.

Seems he was right. The Big XII was a shotgun marriage from the beginning, and looks like it will end soon. Hate to see it.

As an ISU grad and a native Nebraskan, this is sad.

Hey Mike! Good to see you up here again.
This is a big deal for College sports, I don't think I like this...
I like the Nebraska/Oklahoma, Nebraska/Texas rivalries.
Is gonna be a hard adjustment to make.

" OU on the decline "

There are only a handful of schools in the country who see a Heisman trophy winning QB and an All-American TE out for the season, along with a few more, and then go 8-5 for the season and then beat a very good PAC-10 team (Stanford) in post-season play.

We're glad you consider last season part of a decline. That means you have high expecations of us and really you know we'll be back.
