Of course, journalists are supposed to avoid passive voice as much as possible...

Man oh man...

There are probably worse ways to go, but right now I can't think of any.

But it brings to mind:

SAFETY FIRST!!!

ALWAYS!
ALWAYS!
ALWAYS!!

SAFETY FIRST!!!

There was a case in 1986 in Connecticut in which an airline pilot murdered his wife, froze her body, cut it up in pieces using a chain saw, then fed the pieces through a rented wood chipper on a bridge over a lake in the middle of the night during a snow storm. Unfortunately for the murderer, a snow plow operator remembered where he'd seen a chipper in the night. The murderer got 99 years after the prosecution matched teeth found in the chipper output to his wife's dental records.

The Woodchipper Murder Case

Dr. Henry Lee, of OJ and JonBenét fame, led the forensics team.

If that happened to me, I would be all mixed and and in pieces.

I wouldn't feel too chipper about it, myself.

no kidding! I can’t imagine. The sleeve on his shirt probably got caught and he probably got pulled in by his hands first.

Can you imagine your horror realizing you’re getting pulled into one of those things?

They had that case on Forensic Files. They fed a pig carcass through the wood chipper to estimate where the remains would go. (in this case the edge of a creek) The culprit also left some of their mail at the scene of the crime, I think.

Yes. Don’t they have a kill switch?

I’m still kicking myself in the backside... earlier this week I had to drill out a washer to fit a bigger nut and I started and was about a minute and a half into it until I realized I had no safety glasses on!

So I put em on and finished the job but damn... I’m normally way more cautious than that.

Nick, it already kills.

I think it needs a "don't kill" switch instead.

Just sayin'.

I don’t know if this would be a worse way than the wood chipper but it’s got to be close no?

The culprit also left some of their mail at the scene of the crime, I think.

That's true. When they located the scene, one of the first things Dr. Lee found was a scrap of paper with the victim's name and address. So, maybe the corpse was fully clothed with a letter in a pocket. Or maybe the killer decided to shred some other stuff along with the body. From Chapter 10:

In the end, Dr. Lee said, "Our team's efforts at Lake Zoar eventually led to the discovery of 2,660 strands of blond hair, 69 slivers of human bone, 5 droplets of human blood, 2 teeth, a truncated piece of human skull, 3 ounces of human tissue, a portion of human finger, 1 fingernail, and 1 portion of toe nail."

The shredding took place 19 November, and Dr. Lee and his team began examining the site on 30 December.
