Uberti's 1873 .44 Magnum Carbine

I noticed on the Uberti website that they are offering an 1873 carbine (19" barrel) in .44 Magnum. I have not seen any information other than that. I was wondering if anyone had one, or knew of an article about them. I kinda like the idea of this gun in .44 Mag myself....if they have in fact pulled it off.

I’ll second the OP who said they make very nice guns. My dad has one of their cowboy revolvers in .22LR/.22Mag (changeable cylinders) that he’s had since I was a pup. Still a nice shooting gun.

My .45-70 Handi- Rifle and .45-70 Springfield 1884 will hit you like a ton of bricks .

Guess you can sometimes get a used one for less in good shape.

That’s how I got my Garand, M1917 and Trapdoor Springfield.

Every couple of weeks I go down and check out one of these chambered in 45 Long Colt. Fit and finish are great. It is a beautiful rifle. It is very expensive, over $1100 and I have not been willing to make an investment in shooting a new caliber. If all you want is a 44 Mag lever gun - check out the Marlin Model 1894 Cowboy, an excellent gun for a lot less money.

Question: Wouldn’t the “equal and opposite reaction” result in some violent rearward motion with a .44? The .30 - .30 always seemed to me to be the best of beauty, balance and precision. sd

I’m certainly happy with my .30-30- shoots where I point it, and I’ve shot one of the Marlin 1894s. I don’t find either to kick excessively.

I’ve fired one of the Marlins- they are pretty good. These Ubertis are good looking guns if nothing else. I’m just mostly looking for more info on them. Your advice is well taken though- from a cost/benefit point of view you are certainly correct- that Uberti ain’t cheap....

Seems like it would make a decent short range deer gun.

I have the Marlin 1894 lever action in .44 Magnum with a peep sight for whitetail deer hunting. I put one right through the heart at 150 yards last season. I can hit a paper plate reliably free hand at 150 yards. You can group to about 4" with a rest. Aslo, good gun for "plinking" at things like engine blocks, shooting holes in rail road ties, etc. You know, just small targets. :)

Another good choice if deer hunting is your need is a 20 gauge with a rifled barrel and a sabot slug. You can make the same 150 yard shot with it.

my problem with the ‘94 in .44 is they seem to need .432” cast bullets, or really slow loads, else they tumble.

It depends. My new Trapper ( New in box ) shoots like a dream. The older "Ranger" that I ditched couldn't hit a barn. Funny, the trapper is 4" shorter. I like the 94's, because they ain't so testy about length. Load 'em up

Have you tried loading any Hornady 265 gr bullets? They've become my new favorites.

I looked at it and it seems as if theyve marketed it for cowboy action shooters. Im guessing then it’s built to be robust and should work just find. It certainly looks great.

I wouldn’t mind to have for a truck gun.

Actually, insure was the common American English spelling until the last 20 or 30 years. Ensure is trendy, and a word I don't use unless I'm talking about the old folks drink.

Insure and ensure have been two distinctly different words in the USA for a very long time, I can assure you. You can ensure that this is true by checking with any US dictionary. Insure means to purchase an insurance policy against some sort of risk.

Yep and I've been lusting after one of those Uberti Wright conversions of an 1851 Colt in 38 Special. They are so pretty and I just know they would point mighty nice too.
