PEARLAND, Texas A Houston-area woman is recovering after two large pit bulls attacked her outside her home, police said.
Cherry Woods, 39, claims her cat, Lima, saved her from the dogs by scratching and hissing at the animals. According to the Pearland police report, the attack happened May 21 just before 8 a.m.
Woods claims she was walking back to her home in the 2300 block of Short Springs Court in Pearland when she saw the dogs from a distance. When they started charging towards her, she tried to fight them off, but they knocked her down several times.
Her husband, Harold Woods, said he was inside the home when he heard her screams. He unsuccessfully tried to separate the dogs from his wife, he said.
Thats when the couples cat, Lima, jumped into the fray. According to Woods, the feline clawed and hissed at the dogs and distracted them.
"Our cat came out of the bushes and scratched one of the dogs, and started hissing at it," he said. "They both turned their attention to the cat. I was able to grab my wife and pull her inside the house."
This was out of character for Lima.
"Shes the most reclusive, timid animal Ive ever seen," Harold Woods said.
But not on that day.

It’s odd how often I read of these rare attacks by gentle pit bulls.
This decision should not take that long!!!
Please correct me if I am wrong or missing something.
Wouldn’t requiring Pit Bull owners carry ($100k or so)liability insurance go a long way to solving the problem.
Anyone with a Pit Bull or looking to acquire one when faced with having to spend $800 -$1500 a year on insurance would suddenly find the breed a lot less attractive.
There of course would need to be a strong enforcement component because the kind of person who wants a Pit Bull is far more likely to be irresponsible.
Pit Bull owners are criminals.
Well, obviously this couple was inciting hatred. Someone ought to move next door to them and write a book about it.
A calico, even the dogs from hell are no match for a p*ssed off calico. To paraphrase the comedienne Brett Butler, “Those cats aren’t right”
Well, it's a good idea, but we can't get 25% of car owners to carry liability insurance in this state. This would just be another ignored law.
Angels appear in all shapes and forms.
I believe this...a fierce cat can skeer a mean dog...no doubt.
sometime though a mean dog will just dive in and if they do then it’s ciao kitty
A few things don’t add up here. First off, pit bulls don’t get that big. The three registries have them anywhere from 35 to 60 pounds. Anything over that by more than 15 pounds is grossly out of standard, and most likely either not a pit bull at all, or coming from a breeder that likes to breed for color, head size, all the things most important to irresponsible, thug owners.
Secondly, there was no mention of injuries, though the video does show the woman in a blanket on the couch. NO mention of injuries, just that the dogs knocked her down.
Thirdly, if the dogs were attacking as they say, how was it so easy for them to be “distracted” by a cat?? Seems to me they weren’t attacking this lady, but probably excited and untrained and running amock and she freaked out, screaming because they jumped on her. They then saw a cat, which they were interested in, and left her to mess with the cat.
This is a perfect example of the media reporting nonsense because it’s controversial enough to make them lots of money. They called the dogs pit bulls without knowing for sure, they called it an attack though there were no reported injuries, not even a bite mark, and they called a cat a hero for hissing at the dogs, when all it did was distract them. It didn’t step in and attach itself to their faces, so why is it being called a hero? Why are 80 to 100 pound dogs even remotely considered pit bulls? Because they were “attacking” someone? Ridiculous.
good lord
Nice spin from the pro pit-bull lobby!
Too funny....we have a calico cat and a Pit Bull. Guess who rules the roost? Not the pittie....of course, he had no idea he’s a pit bull, he thinks he’s a 10lb lap poodle.

Use rhetoric much? Speak for yourself. I am so sorry that I cannot take these stories at face value, considering I have the knowledge and resources to question what I read. I am so sad that I cannot stomach the beliefs the media and ignorant people would try to force-feed me. Wouldn’t life be that much easier if we were all just fools who believed everything we were told without question?
That looks like my first two cats who were lost in the past 3 years. They were brother and sister from the same litter. They both would stand behibnd the great danes when someone came to the door and hiss if the dogs barked like they were the last line of defense.
Nothing personal, I just don’t like pit bulls. Just the name is scary.
