The year was 1990. The first President George Bush and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev were ending the Cold War, while South Africa was ending apartheid. It was the year of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" and MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This," and in the theaters, Home Alone was the top-grossing film of the year.

Good movie.. Wasn't there some controversy about this film?? Yeah, there was. Arnold capped his wife in the forehead. A lot of feminist groups threw a fit about that. There were also some complaints about the grossness of the movie. The scenes when he pulled the bulb out of his nose and when the faces and eyeballs started popping out in the Martian atmosphere cause the most complaints, IIRC. The guy was wrong about that movie being Arnold's swan song. The next year he did Terminator 2.

Are they going to remake the movie or go back to the original short story, “We Can Remember it For You Wholesale?”

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years.

Of course, even the most mediocre stuff from that period all looks a lot better 20 years hence. So much is crap today, I think we are at the biggest cultural nadir in the last century... maybe two.

Wasn't there some controversy about this film??LOL! Well, if there wasn't then, after reading this thread, I think there is now.

failing to regain his mojo with Starship Troopers (which, while awesome, hardly scored at the box office)... makes the whole article suspect.
I don't know... I think that Starship Troopers is a fun, bad movie (the sequels got worse and worse, without the fun), but the only things they had in common with the RAH novell was some names and the title. I've heard that Verhoven admitted that he never finished reading the book! And I heard that RAH's widow, Virginia, tried to get his name off of the movie.
If you don't compare it to the great book, it was a terrific, fun, bad movie to watch. But then, I'm also a big Dina Meyer fan, Denise Richards... Not so much.

Be a man and say the real cuss word, or say freak with all its letters.
Or be an SF geek and keep quoting Battlestar Galactica. If you're really hardcore, you might even throw in a "gorram" or two from Firefly.

I hate “gorram” too. The English language is replete with fun cuss words. Why invent stupid-sounding new ones?
