DETROIT -- A woman trying to add sugar to her coffee drove off Oregon 22 and 40 feet down into the Santiam River.
Trena Fiels, 42, of Detroit suffered minor injuries in the 9:29 a.m. accident, according to Oregon State Police.
Fiels was westbound on Oregon 22 west of Big Cliff Dam and Detroit Lake when police said she tried to add the sugar.
She drove off the roadway, overcorrrected to the left across a wide shoulder turnout and went 40 feet down to the river. Fiels was belted.
i’m guessing the skid-marks weren’t just on the street
protecting stupid people from themselves.
Well... it can happen ... LOL...
I remember the story of my grandmother driving the car in the park and her purse slipped off the seat and she grabbed it and the car ended up — against a tree ... :-)
Hoo-boy! ... :-)
Uh oh, that hot coffee is gonna mean a lawsuit
Damn good coffee! And hot!

Nice ride..
I've been down that road, it is a nice ride ... :-) ... I used to go down that way on the way to Black Butte development in Central Oregon ...
I work with her. So... she’s going to find lots of sugar on her desk Tuesday morning!!!
“She drove off the roadway, overcorrrected to the left...”
Now there’s you’re problem right there. Next time turn to the right. Going left gets you in trouble every time.
One of my favorite California driving “experiences” was while driving down the Santa Monica “Freeway” in LA was the guy that passed me while shaving. Not with an electric razor, but with foam on his face and a little yellow Bic razor.
I almost drove off the freeway laughing.
Shaving while driving, even with lather and a safety razor is bush league. Michigan drivers are champs at doing stupid things while at the wheel. Last week I saw a woman driving while eating a bowl of stew.
Happened in Oregon but the driver is from MI (Detroit).
My bad, I didn’t realize anyplace else had a detroit.
Just imagine what happens when the airbag goes off.
It almost makes me afraid to pick my nose when I’m driving.
But not quite.
“Stew”?
How did you know it was stew? Any potatoes or carrots in it? Beef, chicken or lamb? I want proof. Was she drinking an appropriate wine with the stew? What kind?
“Sugar - it’s a hell of a drug.”
It looked like Dinty Moore. The approriate wine for that is sparkling Sparkling Muscatel.
I constantly order a “ damn fine cup of coffee.” It always gets a strange reaction, my desired effect.
They were eating from a can as they drove? How gauche!
