Was watching an episode of 'Frasier' a few days ago, and not germaing to the plot or scriptline, just what the characters were doing while talking.."Frasier" and "Niles" were in the kitchen, and while talking, "Niles made some microwave popcorn, and when it was done, he pulled the bag out, and emptied it into a bowl...No big shakes, hadn't really paid much attention to the actions, but as the scene carried on, 'Niles" pulled a bottle out of the fridge/cupboard, and sprinkled the popcorn wityh it...and *that* is what caught my attention, because while the bottle was small, and mostly hidden by "Niles's" hand, it is a distinctive bottle...It was a bottle of Tabasco sauce. I was intrigued, and the next time I made some popcorn, I tried this out. It was good, but seemed like there was something missing in the flavor combo at thhe same time.
Mayne I missed him adding something prior to the Tabasco sauce? i don't know.
But I thought this might be a good topic for a chat thread.
Anyone know what I missed, if anything to the popcorn mix? or have other quick tips of quick TV snack "kick ups" or tips to share?
I was thinking maybe some Grated Parm as well as the Tabasco
I think it’s execrable, how people keep rubbing your nose in it.
They do make popcorn seasonings to sprinkle over. I have ‘Kernel Seasons’ Parmesan-Garlic and White Cheddar seasonings. However, one of MY favorites is J & D’s BaconSalt! Bacon salt makes the popcorn taste EXTRA yummy!
(Not only that, but the company supports our troops overseas with “Operation BaconSalt”. They send pallets of the stuff for free to distribute to our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan. Buying this product helps a company that helps our troops!)
I *do* love bacon, but I am skeptical about liking it with popcorn. I’ll have to give it a test try if I can find a place that sells them by the single container.
BWAHAHAHA.......LMAO!!
You owe me a beer...and a keyboard!
Caramel corn.
Or melt butter add a little Karo light corn syrup - 1/2 cup brown sugar - pinch of salt. Pour over popcorn - mix well.
Thank you for this, pinging for after work
If you go to www.baconsalt.com, they have links to where you can buy the stuff. It is available in most states.
Get your wife up to make popcorn and get you a soda.
Fresh crap meat????
I sometimes throw a few crispy strips of bacon in the food processor, pulverize it and get some bacon dust. Then I sprinkle over the corn. mmmmm, bacon corn.....
The famous Jessup recipe. See post 6.

Your post made me try popping the corn in bacon fat.
The bacon from Benton’s Smoky Mountain Country Hams is really exceptional. Smoked for three days. Found out about Alan Benton right before he became a foodie super-star. For a while there he had a 5 week waiting list before he could ship. Back to normal now....anyways the fat is so favorful, I save it to drizzle a tsp or tbls on lasagana, in pea soup etc.
The corn popped in it has a faint bacon taste. Not as much as I expected. Have to crumble up some of the bacon to enhance it...maybe mix the bacon/and or fat with some dehyrdrated chedder.
LOL!
Nothing to add to the discussion on various ways to eat popcorn, just wanted to thank you for bringing back some memories of what I thought was the best written comedy show on TV. Sure wish it were still running. Thank heavens for re-runs.
Don’t do popcorn that often but my favorite summer TV snack is frozen seedless grapes.
