OK, so I'm at the Dunkin Donuts this morning, it's a rather cool spring morning, about 50 degrees. I can see my breath in the air! Yet, every woman in the Dunkin Donuts were in flip-flops!
Now everywhere I go these days, it seems that the women are wearing flip-flops instead of regular shoes. Why is that?
I just don't get the appeal of wearing flip flops. I can understand wearing them at the beach. And when I was in Marine boot camp (Parris Island), we were issued a pair to wear to the shower. But anywhere other then the beach or the shower, I'm just not getting it. Why would you want to wear flip-flops instead of regular shoes?
Now get this, I go walking with the dog every morning for about 4 miles. Think I could do that in flip-flops? Think again. Nothing but hard-soled footwear for me. I wear hiking boots maybe 9 months out of the year. During the summer, I might switch to sneakers (New Balance) or maybe some Docksider boat shoes. But no flip-flops for me.
I'd like to see some woman follow me into the woods in flip-flops when I go hiking. Good luck with that. Try hiking Mt. Washington in a pair of flip-flops. You won't think flip-flops are so swell when you try that.
I'm not quite sure when women in flip-flops became the "in" thing. Back when I was younger, you just didn't see flip flops except maybe at the beach or in the shower like I mentioned before. Suddenly, all these women decide that this is what they want to wear. You even see woman in dresses with flip-flops. What is up with that? It's like if I wore a suit with sandals. It would be ridiculous. But for women, they seem to get away with wearing flip-flops with their business attire.
Also, isn't it uncomfortable to go walking around in flip-flops? Don't you feel vulnerable walking around in public with flip-flops? What if a nuclear bomb went off and you had to run for the hills? Wouldn't get very far in a pair of flip-flops. What if somebody with heavy boots was to stomp on your toes? If you were wearing regular shoes, not such a big deal. In flip flops, it's going to leave a mark.
Somebody, hopefully, will explain this flip-flop thing to me. I would like to understand. Thank you and good night.
Ha Ha - Funniest Post Award !!! Awesome !
Damn kids these days and their whore shoes. :-)
I live in a pair of Birkenstock thongs, and I love them.
I lived in flip-flops (we called them thongs back then) in the 70’s and live in them again these days. I LOVE the freedom that comes with flip-flops. Plus, there are
SO MANY cute styles. They are cheap and you can get colors for almost every outfit. I DON’T wear them hiking, though, haha!
Living in Phoenix for 12 years and having been in Sweden for the past year, I fantasize about my flip flops. All 50 pairs...
My aunt is 90 in NYC and was having real trouble getting around, because her feet hurt.
My Dad got her some Crocs and she is so happy now!
I have loved Crocs for my little ones. No better shoe for toilet training, or when they step in dog poop, or a muddy puddle... They are so easy to scrub clean. And they never stink like leather sandals do.
I also have a bad back & they are easy for me to slip on without having to bend over all the time. I work in my yard alot & keep a pair by front & back doors, as I do not allow shoes to be worn in the house.
I have dressy sandals & dressier flip flops for running to the grocery store or evening wear, but for around our boat or yard, where my feet are likey to get wet, I keep my flip flops handy!!
Agree, they look a heck of alot better than those clunky crocs, and take notice, the ones who wear those crocs, are the ones who should not be drawing attention to their legs or feet. Crocs are cute on a 2 year old!!!
NO way, speak for yourself. I am not a flip/flopper at all, a very staunch conservative.
Are you sure?
Originally $375. Now $169.
You go girl, I totally agree! If you've got it, flaunt it! Cute flip-flops look great with shorts & that is what I live in in the summertime!
nothing wrong with flip flops on chicks...my wife wears them
(so do I....the softest Tevas I can find)
have heel scraper and a tub of Aquaphor handy though...horrible for heel support
VC ran hell through woods and swamps in flip flops...just as a side note
and I walk pretty good in them too
Hey I agree.
I personally dont like the rub between the toes on any shoe.
I have been wearing Birks (many styles with covered toes) for 25yrs due to work and my short ducky feet.
It is all personal taste IMO and where we live flip flops are very popular. Personally its to dang cold.
Heels/slippery bottoms/flip flops would or me be an accident waiting to happen in my daily life.
I bought a pair of LLBean rain/mud shoes (nice and wide) a few years ago and love them for anti back/feet pain but they would slip on dime spill of water....suppose all the traction is just for design.
There is not a shoe sold in America (Made in China) that I can slide my ducks into.
Size 5 triple www.
Ah I can wear my birk sandels when not with KV.
Love my birk shoes for work, never slip and good on the old back.
By all means, let me know where that thread is!
Bingo. I mean, what's the point of sitting in the manicure/pedicure shop for an hour when you can't show off your pretty little toes?
When I'm home in the warm months, I wear sandals, not so much flip-flops. I'm a southern girl. Shoes are oppressive. :)
Because even geeks know that you don't wear dress socks with Birkenstocks...
Seriously, I do it because I get bad athlete's foot (or somesuch) if I ever wear the Birkenstocks with bare feet.
Cheers!
Move to Phoenix. Lots of places there allow people to wear shorts to the office in August.
Cheers!
And who is the other guy with him? It almost looks like he's lurking in the bushes.
Cheers!
