It is a shame that DITHF cannot offer us the advantage of his expertise...

My dad fought in the Battle of the Buldge and got a Purple Heart. I think he was 19 yrs. old. He is a real American patriot and he provided us with good values.

I enjoyed “On Common Ground: A World War II Reunion” and Ken Burns “The War”. The latter includes a well done episode on the battle in the Huertgen Forest and the battle of Schmidt.

My husband’s dad fought in the Battle of the Bulge too. We went there recently, to Vieux Saume (I think it was called) and saw the bridge where he was wounded. There was a memorial in the town to the 75th Infantry, which he was part of, and they told us at the small museum near there that “The 75th Infantry saved THIS town.”

Do go if you haven’t been. With GPS it is not hard to find your way around. It was quite moving.

The father of a close friend fought in the Bulge. He was in the 75th Infantry Division and described it as being an experience of cold, hunger, confusion, and heavy fighting at times.

Did that guy, DeepInTheHurtgenForest, hijack your post too?

He sure was a naughty guy. Anybody else here remember him?

thanks I remember reading a book years back about this battle,it stuck me that the US high command seemed to be channeling Gen Ambrose Burnside

Had a friend of my grandfather,
I did not know until the after his death he had been at hurtgen
