I think I started getting a sense that things had gone seriously south when some of the finger pointing started to show in the articles about 3 days ago.

The paper mentions a quote from Roosevelt, that “liberal economic policies are needed to avert war”. Dang, that same idiotic nonsense is spewed forth to this day...

“How Sturdy The Oak?” indeed. Great cartoon!

These were dark moments in history.

Anyone who could see that map and not know that Hitler had won that round is a moron.

By the way, #17 is a cool map

“Operation Dynamo itself did not start until 6.57pm on 26 May, when the Admiralty ordered Admiral Ramsey to start the full evacuation. “

Oh, they’ve been fighting for a thousand years. What’s the point of getting involved?

One thing I forgot to mention about Weygand sacking the generals; it wasn’t so much who he sacked as who he DIDN’T sack. Specifically I’m thinking of Huntziger. The left wing of his 2nd Army folded up like a cheap tent/suit/house of cards (you pick your favorite metaphor). Huntziger arguably lost the war at Sedan. Instead of sacking him, he was promoted to command an Army Group. Go figure.

You’re right. The fact that Huntziger survived this purge is really baffling. And he’s not done being promoted yet either.

As to my favorite metaphor...The 2nd Army got beaten like a narc at a biker rally.

You have a point there. Afterall, look what happened last time we went over there. 2 million of our boys go over there to help them out and it was completely unappreciated. I think I will agree with General Tasker Bliss who said, "I think we had better stay on our side of the water and keep alive the spark of civilization to relight the torch after it is extinguished over here" (he was in Paris at the time he said this).
