130 lb Hooters Waitress Told To Lose Weight Or Lose Job!

DETROIT - Hooters had just given waitress Cassie Smith a glowing 2 year review.

But her bosses and two women on a conference call from the company's headquarters in Atlanta changed their tune when it came to her uniform evaluation

“They were like, your shorts and your shirt size could use some improvement,” said Smith.

Cassie, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 132 pounds claims she sat there while she was told if she wanted to keep her job she needed to drop some weight.

“These women proceeded to tell me I had 30 days, they would give me a free gym membership, and if I didn't improve in 30 days I would be separated from the company,” Smith said.

“I was horrified, I was heartbroken, I was humiliated,” she continued.

Cassie clearly doesn't have a problem squeezing into her skimpy uniform, an extra small tank top and shorts.

In fact she says when she started this job 2 years ago she weighed about 10 pounds more than she does now.

Questions to the restaurant’s general manager Rob Rice were deferred to Hooters’ corporate offices.

For Cassie the damage has already been done.

The 20 year-old feels like she's a victim of weight discrimination by a corporation with unrealistic expectations.

“I don't want other girls to go through this. I don't want anyone to have to go through this.”

Just using it as an illustration. Besides, there are women on this thread. Some of them may appreciate it.

I'm putting this on abusing the "banglist" for obvious nefarious reasons.

I said the Hooters’ Corp is nuts. This waitress is at a very healthy weight (See Wight Watchers’ chart above). Actually, she is 2 lbs under weight. Better her 130 lbs than her bent over in the rest room barfing her brains out!

You may not even know what your old girl friends weighed. Did you ask them? Are you taking their word for it? I don’t know a single woman who tells the truth about her weight when asked. Not to her husband, or BF. Not in interviews. Not on her driver’s license. Not to her insurance company. You’d have to see her ON THE SCALES to know for sure.

"...Yes, I need to lose weight, but I don’t need to lose the ~100 pounds that the charts (and my Wii Fit) says I should..."

If losing the weight isn't the way that you want to go, you might also consider simply growing 5 or 6 inches to fit their scale.

Do I need s/?

I’m 5’4” and weigh about 115 lbs soaking wet...and that’s after having 4 kids!

This young lady is 4 inches taller and only about 15 lbs. heavier than myself. That ain’t plump...that’s healthy! :)

i’ve actually seen women on the scales...usually if they were proud of it

women were thinner when I was young..it was easier

my wife will go on the scales when she is happy about it...after preg fat comes off..that sort of thing

i just don’t get how folks celbrate muffins and thigh friction and Beyonce butts but that’s cool if that is what folks like...have it at it

i’m long outta the hunt anyhow

but...we have a lot more truly fat women today than ever before..esp black and latino and poor white women...like twice their bodyweight with squinty eyes they are so fat

how did this happen?

truly fat people when i was young were rare

Yes, BMI is worthless unless it takes into account bone structure and male-female differences. A male with normal bone structure who is 5'8’ and weighs 130 would never be considered a bit overweight.

Several other appropriate weight charts, most by life insurance companies who bet on the results and have gazillion years of collective experience are clearly better.

Yeah, I'm sure Hooters has been down this road a few times before and know exactly what they're allowed to do.

Hooters has indeed been sued before for its antics, but I'm not so sure that it has learned its lesson. Off-handedly, this strikes me as gender-based discrimination. Hooters would not require a waiter, with similar proportions, to lose weight or be fired. I think Hooters has some real problems here.

Fast food. Fast food takes no effort to purchase, is consumed quickly, and leaves you unsatisfied. Also, if you eat out, the portions are way too large.

Women should look like women, not the angular, curveless shape of a 14 year old boy, that the current arbiters of taste, the queers, have foisted upon us

Correct you are good sir. By today's standards Sophia Lauren would have been considered fat when she was at the absolute height of her beauty in the sixties.

Today you must look like a starving refugee to be considered beautiful.

I vote for Sophia Lauren.

Less activity and a slow increase in portion sizes over the years, starting with restaurant portions, this then conditioned us to expect larger portions at home as well.

Just my own experience tells me that. It’s MUCH harder for me to control portion size than the type of foods I eat.

Always one of my favorites.

Also, the “full-figured gal”, the luscious Jane Russell.

Yes.

50s/60s/70s and even 80s kids ate fast food too - if anything, girls in particular were less concerned about “healthy” eating, but since portions were smaller, people weighed less overall.
