'Annie' comic strip ending after 85 years

CHICAGO (AP) - The iconic redheaded orphan Annie is ending her time on newspaper comics pages after 85 years.
Tribune Media Services announced Thursday that it will cease syndication of the "Annie" strip on June 13.

The horse laugh is that Tribune Media Services syndicates the strip, but it doesn’t run in the Chicago Tribune.
If you can’t sell the strip to your own newspaper, how are you going to get other papers to run it?

Wiki Article. 'Twould appear that Annie's author was once deemed too critical of Saint Franklin D. Roosevelt and tossed from a newspaper. And both
The Nation and
The New Republic approved of it, preferring their President to inconvenient artistic freedom.
