It appears that some burns were approved 8 days after the event. The 1994 plan supposedly gave on site commanders the ability to immediately start burns but was not implemented.

It also appears that neither BP nor the Feds had the necessary equipment.

Let’s leave Al out of it. Unless, of course, he wants to close his mouth, roll up his sleeves and bale some hay. He looks to be in fairly good physical shape. He’s shed a few pounds. I also think a little less lip and a little more elbow grease from everybody in Washington would be a good thing all round. It would be wonderful if we just leave race and politics out of it and do what’s right for the country. The oil is too precious to waste and the hay and straw would be a cheap deal.

I agree. Put prisoners to work cutting and binding the stuff, put out of work manual laborers to work driving down the trucks, get the local businesses involved to provide discounts for help, make sure there are plenty of industries, like Lowes, Home Depot, Hertz Rental Trucks, Pepsi Cola, ImBev, you name it.

Tennessee could use a little love right now, too. That's a little harder to do. Medical shots and so forth would be needed, but it could be done there, too.

This country was built on “help or get out of the way”. I don't know when we came to the point where we thought we're too good to do the work or too feeble. We always used to saddle up and get the job done. Now, everybody wants to sit and wait for the check in the mail.
