PHILADELPHIA -- This old man has plenty left in his pitching arm.
Forty-seven-year-old Jamie Moyer tossed a two-hitter to become the oldest player in major league history to throw a shutout as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 7-0 on Friday night.
The Phillies confirmed the feat by Moyer, who accomplished it at 47 years, 170 days old. Phil Niekro was the previous oldest at 46 years, 188 days when he tossed a four-hitter for the New York Yankees against the Toronto Blue Jays on Oct. 6, 1986.
"Cool, just doing my job," Moyer said when told of the accomplishment.

Don’t get too excited the Braves can’t hit their way out of a wet paper bag right now. Remember it is a long season. Go Braves!
Jamie Moyer is an ageless wonder. Go Phils!!!
The Seattle Maryanns make the Atlanta Knaves seem loaded with power hitters.
Watched the game tonight. Incredible!
And Jamie’s at-bat in the 9th was a hoot - - he worked a full count and then fouled off 3 pitches before flying out down the third base line. How long has it been since Jamie Moyer batted in the 9th inning??
Moyer has been my favorite athlete for a long time.
Because they have a majority owner who makes a nice return on investment annually and could give a rat's ass about winning.
THe way this season's attendance are trending, Mr Nintendo may not have a good return on thise year
By the way I grew up a Phillies fan. I am conflicted.
Why the CUBS let him go. . . .
Maddux, too. Maddux and Moyer came up to the Cubbies around the same time.
Sounds like a real yawner from the least physically demanding sport this side of lawn bowling.
