Here is video of teen singing sensation Justin Beiber (16 years old) in an interview recently where he was asked if the name "Beiber" is "German" for basketball.
Beiber was dumbfounded by the question because he did not know what the word "German" was. The interviewer repeated the word several times and then Beiber even read it off the guy's notes. But then he said, "We don't say that in America," meaning the word "German."
I guess we know he hasn't taken "German" yet in high school.

I had not listened to it that way. I guess that is possible.
Yeah, he did read it on paper as well. He sure sounds like he had no idea what the word meant.
I watched the video. I thought his hat was quite silly looking. Reminds me of the Keebler elf cookie guys. His voice sounds more like a 12 year old.
Germane Jackson?
“What’s that supposed to mean? “
It means she doesn’t know that we speak English here!
I would say the interviewer is a fairly clever chap, OTOH.

"Oh, 'German'! I'm sorry, I thought there was something wrong with you!"
A pretty weak interviewer that who couldn’t even pronounce the word ‘German’ correctly. I’ve heard Bieber say that Bieber is a German name, and he’s been in Germany on promotional stops. I expect he knows what German is and was just brushing off a very poorly asked question.
I’ve seen him in other interviews and he’s got a little ornery streak and can play jokes on the interviewer.
Are you talking about our Pres__ent?
The fact that he said, “We don’t say that in America” shows that he knew what it meant. We’re not always trying to figure out what nationality people are, much less asking them.
Yah. Die wurst ist in Deutschland besser.
In addition to being somewhat daft, the lad looks a bit effeminate for my likings.
more or less.
