Passenger Dead On Scene, Driver Pulls Over To Shoulder
FOREST VIEW, Ill. (CBS) ―
Two men were shot, one fatally, as they drove on the outbound Stevenson Expressway near Central Avenue.
A fatal shooting brought the Stevenson Expressway to a standstill Tuesday morning. One man was killed, another critically wounded and the suspect is still on the loose.
Crime scene technicians were still on the Stevenson as of midday. They arrived before sunrise, and spent the morning, gathering evidence that could help them track down the gunman.
It was a fight at a Chicago nightclub although police aren't saying which one that triggered the shooting.
The shots rang out on the Stevenson around 4 a.m., but police say the incident that sparked the shooting started much earlier at the downtown nightclub where the fight broke out. Chicago Police were called to break up the fight, but before they arrived, the men involved took off in a sport-utility vehicle, while being chased by the gunman in another vehicle.
"It appears the altercation continued onto the expressway," said Illinois State Police Lt. Luis Gutierrez, "at which time the offender went alongside the vehicle on the left-hand side and began to shoot at the vehicle."
Police say multiple shots were fired at the three men, all of them friends, inside the s-u-v.
"The passenger, which was fatally shot, was shot one time and our driver was shot three times," said Lt. Gutierrez.
Despite gunshot wounds to the face and elsewhere, the 41-year-old male driver managed to pull over on the shoulder. He is now in critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Killed was the 35-year-old male passenger in the front seat. Another man sitting in the backseat escaped injury. Police are questioning him, as well as several other witnesses.
Meanwhile, they are now on the lookout for the suspect's vehicle: a Chevy Trailblazer, newer model, silver in color.
"Anyone with information about the vehicle, the shooting or the altercation should contact the Illinois State Police," Lt. Gutierrez said.
The number to call with information is (847) 294-4400. Illinois State Police and Chicago Police are working on this as a joint investigation.
Utopia!
aren’t guns illegal in Chicago
They need more restrictive gun laws, that is f’sure! /s
Physical description of suspect?
Might help...
Handguns are illegal, in Chicago, but the city has a high murder rate. Here is more proof that gun bans help criminals commit more crimes.
Obviously another white right-winged extremist. Pinging MSNBC.
Murders don’t surprise me here in Chicago. The are so common that they don’t even make the news any more. Statistically it is safer to live in the Green Zone of Baghdad than within the city limits of Chicago. But to hear that TRAFFIC WAS ACTUALLY MOVING ON THE STEVENSON. Now that is news I never expected to see.
It was pre-dawn.
This guy is a lieutenant?
“The passenger, which was fatally shot, was shot one time and our driver was shot three times,” said Lt. Gutierrez.
Apparently English is his 2nd—or 3rd—language.
Is that in Chicago, Forest View, or Stickney??
Good thing guns are illegal in Chicago ... whew, somebody could have died! /s
This is impossible. The law says so.
