Dayton woman left bloodied after pit bull attack

By Matt Natali @ May 3, 2010 4:17 PM Permalink | Comments (0)

DAYTON, Ohio -- A pit bull bit and injured a woman in the back yard of her Fernwood Avenue home on Monday after several dogs started fighting.

The incident occurred around noon at 129 Fernwood Ave. as the woman was trying to call her two pit bulls inside her home, according to Sgt. Bill Keller. The woman, who is believed to be at least 40, was trying to get her dogs inside because she noticed two other pit bulls had entered her yard. "At this time one of the strange pit bulls that wasn't supposed to be in her yard bit her on both arms fairly severely," Keller said. "She then called police," Keller said.

While the woman was inside, the dogs continued to fight outside. When police arrived they noticed that the woman had puncture wounds and blood on her arms.

Animal Resource Center officers were called to the scene. They rounded up all the dogs, who were covered in blood, after using pepper spray on at least one of the dogs, Keller said. The woman's dogs, both of which were injured, were taken for safe- keeping.

The woman told police she believed the other two dogs belong to someone in the neighborhood, but police had not identified the owner as of 1:30 p.m., according to Keller.

"There will be an investigation done to find out what charges are most appropriate," Keller said.

Yes, it does help because it invalidates your “rebuttal” quite nicely.

The article says there was no absolute ban on base and ~off~ base, he can own a hippo, if he so chooses.

[Comprehensive reading: it’s a rare and beautiful thing]

No.

I’m saying you should expect *more* control from a K-9.

(Sheesh!)

Our merry band of so-called “pit lovers” devote a lot of time educating people with ~facts~ and useful, positive advice regarding the ownership of and responsibility for dogs.

*If* you had bothered to research that fact, you [possibly] wouldn’t have gone off half-cocked, making arbitrary assumptions about people whom you do not even know, let alone understand the intentions of.

The article and the intent of the article was that the miiltary is/has banned these dogs from military members owning them. Thus, my position is valid whether you like it or not. My position is valid whether that article indicated that the ban didn’t apply with respect to the army as your intent was the same - that is, to suggest that there is a widespread attempt to ban certain breeds of dogs already underway. Your bringing up the case where the article excludes said banning does not help your argument that a wholesale ban is underway. You can continue to argue in your little circular reasoning, but your intent is very clear regardless of your attempts to confuse.

Actually, a professionally trained “police/protection dog” is ~far~ safer than the average untrained family pet.

Anyone who owns a Malinois *better* know what they’ve got and what they’re doing.

They have *not* had the sharpness bred out of them....yet...and that is why they have taken precedence over GSDs on most police forces.

Your son have kids?

Worry.

Ah. So, you and your “merry band of pit lovers” are the be all end all of pit bull education. And, of course, everyone in the country comes to you and your merry little band to obtain said education. This is why the “misinformation” about how dangerous these dogs can be is on the decrease around the nation and why all Americans have now embraced having these dogs in their neighborhoods/s

*Try* to follow the thread/train of thought/stream of consciousness.

If you *can’t* manage *that*, at least click back and see what a post was in reply to.

Pathetic.

Actually, a professionally trained “police/protection dog” is ~far~ safer than the average untrained family pet.

Haven't spent much time around K-9 LE have you? Safer? When under the control of the handler - usually that is the case. But, I have seen professionally trained K-9's lunge at people (other cops included) in the presents of the handler. I have also heard K-9 officers warn people, usually young kids, to get away from the vehicle in which the K-9 was in because of the danger. There is no generalization that can be applied just because the dog was professionally trained. Just prior to my son and his wife (perhaps my tagline might have been a clue) delivering their twin sons they found a new home for both of their dogs. Part of the reason for this was because of the potential for health issues arising from allergens, and also for safety reasons. Worry not required.

We seem to have assembled a nice collection of serious dog owners/fanciers/showers/breeders/trainers and handlers.

Again, *if* you’d bothered to study, you’d be surprised how many times we are thanked for bringing to light facts and figures formerly unknown to many people.

We try to highlight the maintenance of health and training of dogs, whenever possible.

Sorry if it upsets you that people quite often come to like us....and frequently join in.
