Dogs described as "pit bulls" attacked two people recently, one an 11-year-old girl ("Passer-by helps teen attacked by dog in Toledo," April 16; "'Pit bull' shot after attacking girl, officer," April 19). Not to diminish the seriousness of these attacks, but blame the owners.

There’s more on the Undead Thread.
They’d certainly be able to tell by the extent of damage and DNA residue.
[not to gross people out, but due to “the wonders of canine anatomy” (ick!) male dogs “tie” with the object of their “affection” and are physically unable to extricate themselves and the average tie lasts at least 15 minutes]
The pit was very polite.
My Dobermann would’ve peed on it in his usual “Mine” sort of way.
LOL, yeah.
Fritz Brindle would have sniffed it, then tried to lay down on it.
My Wonder Dobe was a Hoytt.
He was THE smartest dog I’ve ~ever~ known.
In 1975, he cost $1200 because in a 10 generation pedigree, 75% of the names were printed in red.
Ebonaire/Damasyn/Warlock/Steb’s/Rancho Dobes/Liquorish/etc etc etc champions.
[but *I* got him free]....:)
It’s been 25 years since he left me and I still grieve.
There can never be another him....but Odin’s carving his name on my heart quite deeply already...:)
The real truth is...
Is your pit capable of KILLING those babies, and are you WILLING to take the chance that it won’t?
It’s your call!
Odin started lifting his leg at 4 months.
What a “precocious” little joy *that* was.....:-\
In the Dobermann forum I’m a member of, the general consensus is that *no* dog truly develops a real guarding instinct until about 1 year of age.
They may *look* like they’re “guarding” but odds are it’s really more of a fear response rather than true protecting.
8 months is *still* very much a puppy.
Odin won’t truly be an “adult” until he’s 18 months old so we’re only half way there and developing his character at a steady but not “pushing” pace.
He may be 29+” and 90 pounds, but he’s still a puppy with a puppy’s mind.
Some people make the mistake of forgetting that.
Wild canids are not expected to “Grow up!” until their mother has the ~next~ year’s litter.
“...men who need these dogs have problems with their own manhood.”
Oh, dear Lord.
~Another~ projectionist.
This place is starting to look like a Cineplex.
[do men who like Yorkies have ‘Venus envy’?]
;]
Go to the Westminster KC site and watch the AmStaff breed judging results video.
I didn’t see any SWAT teams standing at the ready.
We’re not really the “Undead” type...just...cryptically inclined.
:)
It did look awfully soft and comfy.
Over at the Undead Thread, we write, read, and post bizarre stuff.
Sometimess we do come out with the cryptically inclined stuff.
Oh yeah.
Fritz was an Aussie Shepherd, and like Daz [who belonged to a friend whom we pitied] was dumber than a post.
-A dog that is negative integer intelligent is a destructive force to be reckoned with. Couple same dog with a rock hard head, and the very doors of your home are subject to being knocked apart because said dog doesn’t put the brakes on in time to stop before putting his head through the door-
Right? I mean, I’m still trying to figure this out...70 years of show breeding and they still consider the AmStaff unstable? What are they even basing this on?
Yes...these freudian archetypes really do get tiresome. At least the imagery of a princess kissing a frog has been updated to incorporate the hippo...

Big dogs are always “capable”....but I’m more willing to bet on the mauling the idiot would get that would dare enter my yard and try to hurt the kids.
And *why* was I not notified of the existence of this thread?!?
“But at least a Rotty is a beautifully configured dog”
Funny since they both originated from the same Mastiff breed.
Shave a Rott and glue its tail back on and you’ve got a tall Pit.
[and a Dobe’s bite strength is twice that of a Pit...what say ye now?]
FWIW, the only dog the *ever* bit me was a Border Collie.
I was 9 years old.
[it didn’t make the news and all that came of it was that I had to get a tetanus shot]
‘The working dogs, and the show dogs.”
Same with Dobes.
The DPCA -intentionally- “diluted” the breed after the 40s to the point where, out of all those I’ve owned, only *3* were “workers”.
The rest were beautiful, smart, trainable, lovable, loyal and noble...but I had to protect *them*....:)
Thankfully, Euro blood lines are being imported and Schutzhund competition is the “new thing” that’s very old.
Eastern European Dobes are not even allowed to breed unless at *least* one of the parents has Sch degree or other working title.
Their breed standard is -much- stricter, as well.
NO white allowed, NO missing teeth [the AKC allows -4-!] and some countries absolutely do not allow fawns.
“What are they even basing this on?”
I’d guess they’re free-basing, myself.
