Dogs described as "pit bulls" attacked two people recently, one an 11-year-old girl ("Passer-by helps teen attacked by dog in Toledo," April 16; "•'Pit bull' shot after attacking girl, officer," April 19). Not to diminish the seriousness of these attacks, but blame the owners.

When a perfectly mind mannered dog, never mistreated in any way, attacks a child, how is that the owners fault for the dogs behavior?

I’m tired of hearing this. There are pit bulls that have had great owners that have tweaked out and killed a child.
They were bred to fight. The greatest owner and the world can take some of it out of them, but the instinct is always there. I have a friend who got a pit bull three months before his pregnant wife was due. CRAZY

These dogs have been bred to fight to the death. They are called PIT bulls for a reason.

I like how they pretend to automatically MAGICALLY know every aspect of the life of the dogs mentioned in the articles.
Regarding the pic, like a loaded gun in the hands of a toddler. ...maybe it'll go off, maybe it won't.

Pit Bull “Molested And Attacked” Toddler?
Reports of an unusual dog attack in Buffalo starting to lose credibility.
The voice on Buffalo, New York’s WBEN news radio broadcast promised “bizarre and disturbing” news about “an attack on a small boy by a pit bull.” That wasn’t the unusual part. Scare stories about pit bull attacks appear in news coverage almost as regularly as weather forecasts.
What made this one so strange, though, was the mother’s claim that the dog allegedly anally raped her two-year-old son.
The toddler is in guarded condition in Buffalo’s Women’s & Children’s Hospital after undergoing reconstructive surgery. The dog is locked up in the Niagara County SPCA, and the mother’s demanding that it be euthanized as soon as possible.
Just this morning our 7 and 8 year old had to fight off the attacks of our Pit Bull’s...tongue.
He is a kiss monster...

Daz was more likely to drool you to death, beat you to death with the top of his head as he spastically jumped straight up and down, or sit you to death in the lap crush of doom because he thought he was itty bitty instead of the near seventy pounds of “Duh” that he was.
He loved attention and people.

Diesel is a 75 lb lap sitter too....he has no idea he’s a rabid killing machine. The neighbor kids play with him all the time and he loves the cats (who don’t love him back). He adores all people and loves nothing more then to nap curled up on the sofa next to one of his humans.
