Wearing only a diaper and a sweatshirt, a 2-year-old boy was found wandering alone - save for the company of a pit bull by his side - in the Gaylord area on Sunday.
It appears the toddler had been without adult supervision for at least six hours, according to a report by TV 9&10 News.

The dog was a better baby sitter than the scummy parents. The parenst were probably watching reality TV or some stupid NCAA ball game while smoking crack.
Do you want to be the adult to pick up the kid with a pit bull shepherding him? I know how my border collies act when a stranger gets too close to my girls. I can’t imagine what a pit bull might do.
Poor sweet baby. Good doggy.
My DH’s nephew used to escape all the time, when his mom thought he was sleeping. He’d be out in the streets (with NO dog in tow).
Of course he’s 40 plus years old now and retired from the Army with 3 teenage boys. Back then it was a whole lot safer for kids to be out alone though.
“Michigan State Police believe the child went roaming while his mother was at work and his father, who was on prescription medication, was sleeping.”
Scary possibilities; happily, the finder approached cautiously or the toddler went to him or her, so the dog didn’t feel challenged. An excellent guardian.
I remember around 1981, a toodler was seen in the middle of a busy highway in Virginia Beach. A state senator stopped and rescued him. It was dark and he had been passed by several cars before the one stopped.
It particularly bothered me as he was wearing an “I’m A Pepper” shirt. My little toddler happened to be wearing one when I saw the account. He had wondered away from a day care or I guess in this case a night care.
Interest title...
If the dog had bit him the title would scream ‘pit bull’
As it is, it was ‘only a dog’ that kept him company.
Well father on prescript meds = not suitable parenting ... mother needs to get babysitter.
Hopefully the dog was keeping toddler out of the street and ditches and anything else harmful.

This is, sadly, a very common occurrence in positive pit bull stories. I notice they are often called pit bull mixes when they do something good, if the breed is mentioned at all.
It was safer back then but not as safe as we thought.
I guess work and being konked out on meds does not count as negligence in Michigan.... :o

We got a black and white with a split face. He is a bit big for a border collie - we got him from the shelter at a year old.
We got our other bc two years later from the shelter as well - a blue saddleback merle . She was also a year old.
Cute ... actually there are two kinds of BC’s ... a paddock and a field dog. My Roxie is a paddock BC ... the field BC’s are big and lanky for running around pastures. They bring in the sheep and the paddock BC herds them into pens ... my Roxie is on the chunky side, very strong, can pull those black face sheep right into their pens ....
Arlo (my male) must be a paddock BC (slow and methodical), while Splash the female is definitely a field BC (she is doing great in agility competing at an Elite level and usually winning with only one year of competition).
I take my girl to a sheep ranch here so she can keep her skills. She does great herding four big black face sheep into a corner then through the gate into the paddock. She has one blue eye called the BC eye ... the sheep are intimidated by her look ... spooky ...
Must be related to Arlo. He also has one blue eye. I think of it like the old man in “The Tell Tale Heart”
When I had waited a long time, very patiently, without hearing him lie down, I resolved to open a little —a very, very little crevice in the lantern. So I opened it —you cannot imagine how stealthily, stealthily —until, at length a simple dim ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye.
It was open —wide, wide open —and I grew furious as I gazed upon it. I saw it with perfect distinctness —all a dull blue, with a hideous veil over it that chilled the very marrow in my bones; but I could see nothing else of the old man’s face or person: for I had directed the ray as if by instinct, precisely upon the damned spot.
