Early Home Computers

Posted on 04/27/2010 8:09:47 PM PDT by mamelukesabre

Can anyone tell me if market prices of old vintage home computers have started going up yet? I'm talking about things like the Apple II and the commodore 64 and other pre-windows using home computers. I heard a rumor the original game consoles(atari and such) have started being collected and prices are going nuts.

well, it seems a C-64 isn’t worth much:

LOL!

Wow, I might have to bid on that one. I was searching for a C-64 on ebay a couple months ago and couldn't find any under $100. Of course the price may very well shoot up to the range as everybody waits until the last few hours to bid.

Osborne II Executive Weighed about 30 lbs. could use it for added weight in the trunk of your car.

Or a substitute boat anchor ...

Wow! I had a TI-99/4A too, and a bunch of cartridge games. I probably got rid of it when I bought my Apple //e.

You are in a maze of twisty memory paths, all alike. If you move into the dark, it is likely you will be eaten by a Grue.

I had the intellivision as well but that was “misplaced” during my transition back to the east. I know who has it.

We had Commode 64’s in elementary school. Those discs really were floppy back then, 5 and a half inches wide or such.

In college I took an advanced graphics class and we used Radio Shack computers, perhaps they were called TRS-80. We had no floppy disks, but used cassette tapes to store our software, that would fit in 4K bytes of memory. If we were lucky, we could use the machine with 16K bytes of memory.

They made great boat anchors a couple of years later.

Still have my first PC. Built it from floor sweepings. TRS-80 Model 1, on board 64K ram, no hard drive, 2 5-1/4” floppies, NewDos80 booted from floppies. Homebrewed power supply, and floppy drive enclosures. When I last had it assembled, it still worked fine.

Sure don’t want to think about using that junk again. Had lots of games for it. Even a Jumbo flight simulator.

Cannot see why anyone would pay for one, but I will give it to anyone who wants it.

Oh yeah. I did some grad work on a Nova mini-computer. I had to hand feed paper tape every time it was turned on. Once the d@mn paper tape broke in two and I had to scramble to patch it back together. Today I get annoyed if my browser doesn’t come up within 10 seconds of turning on the PC.
