NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.- A California man said he awoke to sounds on his rooftop deck and investigated to find a sea lion pup flopping around atop the four-story home.
Mike Kai, 27, of Newport Beach, said he woke up Thursday at about sunrise and investigated the source of the sounds on top of his house to discover the sea lion wandering around on the rooftop deck, the Orange County Register reported Friday.
"It came off the beach, and I guess the way our stairs work, you can climb straight up to our roof deck," Kai said.
Kai called animal control and the sea lion was taken to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach.
Dean Gomersall, an animal care supervisor at the marine mammal center, told the Newport Beach Daily Pilot the sea lion weighed 32 pounds, a little underweight. He said the animal also had a small cut on its nose.
Gomersall said the animal will probably be released back into the wild in about three months.
LOL. The woodpecker is one of my faves.
Jellybean’s animated graphic of JimRob talking to FReepers is a good one. I don’t know if the graphics change from time to time on a given thread, but it is the one that was up when I posted.
You got it!
Seal lions can use their front flippers to move around on land. Seals can not.
I was reading that. The differences are relatively small, but interesting.
Actually that's: sealions can use their rear flippers and are reasonably mobile on land.
Seals can use only their front flippers to drag themselves along on their bellies. They cannot climb stairs, or move at any speed on land or ice, no matter how strong the motivation.
You are correct, of course. Guess I need sleep. I had just finished reading the info above when I posted. lol.
Thanks, LucyJo! I'm flattered Jim thought it was good enough to put in the rotation!

The graphics rotate. Generally it changes each time you refresh the thread.
Here's the "movie", Joe, if you're interested.
